Jujutsu Kaisen Maki’s New Power-up, Explained

The most recent episode of Jujutsu Kaisen centered around Maki, who is estranged from her family, the Zenin clan. Viewers previously discovered that Maki was traveling to the Zenin Clan’s vault in search of powerful cursed items to help her in the Culling Game.

Returning to her clan was always going to be difficult for Maki, as she was an outcast. But she didn’t dwell on it, because she had more pressing concerns.

Maki Zenin Was Nearly Killed By Her Father

When Maki entered the treasury, Ogi guided her deeper inside. As they went, Maki realized something was terribly wrong. Ogi had taken away the tools with the intention of killing both of his daughters. He’d already attacked Mai and left her to die, believing she and Maki were responsible for him not being chosen as the clan leader. After speaking with Maki, Ogi attacked her, leaving her wounded as well.

Ogi simply walked away, abandoning his daughters to whatever would happen. Things looked hopeless for Maki and Mai, and it seemed like they were facing a terrible outcome. But Mai made a selfless decision: she chose to sacrifice herself to remove the small amount of cursed energy Maki possessed.

Maki Zenin’s New Power-Up In Jujutsu Kaisen

Mai carefully considered her decision to eliminate the last of the cursed energy from Maki. She had a strong reason for doing so: as twins in the world of jujutsu sorcery, they limited each other’s potential. Knowing Maki was born with exceptional physical abilities but held back by cursed energy, Mai believed removing it would unlock her sister’s full strength. She was right – Maki did become significantly more powerful.

Because Maki didn’t have any cursed energy, a special barrier actually made her incredibly strong, and she quickly proved it. She immediately defeated Ogi with just a few blows, then easily took care of several other attackers. Some viewers even said the fight scene looked like something out of the movie Kill Bill.

Maki continued to fight, defeating several powerful members of the Zenin clan. After that, Naoya challenged her, confidently taunting her as he usually did. He initially had the upper hand with his cursed technique, but Maki eventually found a weakness and struck a crippling blow to his face. With Naoya defeated, Maki and Mai were able to leave. Maki left Naoya’s body with Momo and then went after the remaining Zenin clan members responsible for plotting against her.

Maki Is As Strong As Toji Fushiguro

Maki’s incredible power brought Toji Fushiguro, a famous and powerful outcast who didn’t have any cursed energy, to mind for many members of the Zenin clan. Like Toji, whose strength was remarkable even without cursed energy – he almost defeated Gojo Satoru – Maki’s abilities are a huge advantage for those fighting in the Culling Game.

Maki Will Participate In The Culling Game

She Will Help To Free Gojo Satoru

Most fans believe Maki is heading to one of the colonies where the Culling Game is taking place, where she’ll reunite with Yuji and their allies. Now that they have new weapons, their main goal is to free Gojo Satoru and rescue Tsukimi. To save Gojo, they need to find Angel, who supposedly has the ability to nullify any cursed technique. Angel’s power is the key to breaking Gojo out of the Prison Realm. With Gojo freed, they’ll stand a much better chance of defeating Kenjaku and ending the Culling Game.

I’ve been following the situation closely, and it’s looking grim for Gojo. If he isn’t rescued quickly, Yuji and his friends will be forced to try and earn 100 points – a huge number – and create a new rule to both safeguard Tsukimi and end the Culling Game. But collecting that many points won’t be simple. They’ll face resistance from other sorcerers and cursed spirits determined to stop them at every turn.
