I’ve noticed that Megumi Fushiguro is a really interesting, but somewhat divisive, character in Jujutsu Kaisen. Even though he’s the second most important character in the series, he hasn’t had many opportunities to really show off his incredible abilities. Because of that, I’ve seen his popularity with fans gradually decrease over time.
Despite his quiet nature, Fushiguro is a remarkably powerful and talented sorcerer who quickly picks up new skills. This is clear even in the earlier parts of Jujutsu Kaisen. He’s demonstrated his strength many times, but here are seven of his most impressive moments throughout the series.
The Divine Dogs’ Debut
Proved What Skilled Sorcerers Are Capable Of
- Chapter 1 (Manga) Episode 1 (Manga)
It’s often overlooked, but Megumi Fushiguro was actually the first sorcerer to demonstrate a cursed technique in Jujutsu Kaisen (excluding the events of Jujutsu Kaisen 0). When he came to Itadori’s school to protect him and his classmates from the cursed spirits drawn to Sukuna’s finger, he immediately showed off his unique skill: the Ten Shadows Technique.
Fushiguro summoned two spirit dogs, called Divine Dogs, and together they quickly defeated waves of attacking cursed spirits. Even in the first episode, Fushiguro demonstrated the power and skill sorcerers could achieve, highlighting how much training newcomers like Itadori would need to become as strong.
Divine Dog: Totality
The Evolution Of One Of His Previously Nerfed Techniques
- Chapter 47 (Manga) Episode 19 (Manga)
During the story, a strong cursed spirit unexpectedly killed Fushiguro’s white dog spirit, meaning he could no longer summon it. Fortunately, because of the way his technique works, all of the white dog’s power transferred to his black dog, causing it to evolve into a much stronger form called Divine Dog: Totality.
I was seriously blown away watching Fushiguro fight Hanami! He unleashed this incredible new shikigami – a Divine Dog – and it was fast. I mean, it actually hurt Hanami, one of the strongest cursed spirits out there, with its speed, claws, and sheer power. And it wasn’t a fluke! He kept bringing out the Divine Dog in all his tough battles after that, proving just how effective it is. It’s become a key part of his fighting style, and it’s so cool to watch.
Surviving Ryomen Sukuna
He Faced The Main Villain Very Early On In The Series
- Chapter 9 (Manga) Episode 5 (Manga)
Megumi Fushiguro and the powerful Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses, have a long and difficult history. Early in the story, Sukuna became interested in Megumi. That’s why, when Sukuna took over Itadori’s body, one of the first things he did was challenge Megumi to see what he was capable of.
Fushiguro wasn’t powerful enough to defeat Sukuna, but after a tough fight with other cursed spirits, he unexpectedly found himself facing him. Despite being outmatched, he held his own remarkably well. He used his shikigami to keep Sukuna at bay and skillfully dodged his powerful attacks. Although he couldn’t save Itadori, simply surviving a full-on battle against Sukuna was an amazing feat.
Becoming Sukuna’s New Vessel
His Immense Power Indirectly Ruined His Life
- Chapter 219 (Manga)
Megumi Fushiguro wasn’t able to play a large role in the later parts of Jujutsu Kaisen because Ryomen Sukuna took over his body, effectively using him as a host. Despite this, it highlights just how naturally powerful Megumi always was – becoming Sukuna’s vessel is a testament to his strength.
I’ve been following the Sukuna storyline, and it’s just mind-blowing! He spent centuries planning his return, carefully orchestrating Yuji Itadori’s birth as his perfect host. But then, he sees Megumi Fushiguro and instantly decides he’d be a much better vessel! It’s crazy how quickly his plans changed. Sukuna needed a powerful ally to face Gojo, and Megumi, already incredibly strong, was the key to unlocking his shikigami’s full potential. Honestly, Sukuna wouldn’t have been able to do it without Megumi’s existing power – it’s a fascinating dynamic!
Chimera Shadow Garden
His Domain Expansion Was Incredibly Powerful, Despite Being Incomplete
- Chapter 58 (Manga) Episode 23 (Manga)
Domain Expansion is the most powerful technique a sorcerer can master, demonstrating they’ve reached their full potential. Megumi Fushiguro developed his own Domain Expansion, called Chimera Shadow Garden, though it wasn’t fully complete. Even so, it proved to be a valuable ability, and he used it effectively against several strong opponents.
Chimera Shadow Garden creates a vast field of darkness, letting Fushiguro summon numerous powerful shikigami – essentially an army of beasts, including copies of himself – all at once. He successfully used an incomplete version of this technique to defeat both a Finger Bearer and Reggie Star, and even to break into Dagon’s Domain Expansion. Had he fully mastered Chimera Shadow Garden, it would undoubtedly have been among the most formidable techniques in the series.
Defeating Reggie Star
He Fought One-On-One Against One Of The Culling Game’s Most Powerful Sorcerers
- Chapter 172 (Manga)
Similar to other characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, Megumi Fushiguro’s role became less prominent as the manga neared its end, particularly after Sukuna took control of him. Before that, though, he had a fantastic individual battle against Reggie Star, a powerful sorcerer who had been reincarnated.
This fight brilliantly showcases how much Fushiguro has grown in strength, speed, intelligence, and skill throughout the series. He expertly used his shikigami and Domain Expansion to defeat his opponent, and it’s easily his most captivating and thrilling solo battle. It’s unfortunate he didn’t get many other opportunities to fight alone until the story concluded.
Summoning Mahoraga For The First Time
The Shibuya Incident Forced Him To Reveal His Ultimate Shikigami
- Chapter 117 (Manga) Episode 41 (Manga)
Most fans agree that Mahoraga, the Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General, is the strongest shikigami Fushiguro controls, demonstrating just how incredibly powerful his Ten Shadows Technique is. During the intense Shibuya Incident Arc, Fushiguro suffered severe injuries and was forced to summon Mahoraga, warning others that it’s a dangerous, uncontrollable creature that someone else would need to defeat.
Mahoraga is incredibly powerful, tough, and quick, but its most dangerous trait is its ability to adapt to anything, making it nearly impossible to defeat. Ryomen Sukuna managed to subdue and banish Mahoraga in a devastating battle that largely destroyed the Shibuya area. Furthermore, Mahoraga’s existence was the key reason Sukuna chose Fushiguro as his next host, and he later summoned it to fight Satoru Gojo in their final, decisive confrontation.
