Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo: Has Yuji Itadori Surpassed Ryomen Sukuna?

The story of Jujutsu Kaisen centers around Yuji and Sukuna, a fascinating pair who explore the idea of an ancient being stuck inside a young hero. Unlike similar stories, however, Yuji and Sukuna never found a way to get along – they were enemies throughout the entire series.

Everyone always assumed Sukuna was the strongest sorcerer in the Jujutsu Kaisen world, and would stay that way. But the recent Modulo arc has really made me question that. I’ve been thinking a lot about who’s actually stronger now – Yuji or Sukuna – and I want to break down my thoughts here.

The Strongest At The End Of The Original Series Was Sukuna

The Strongest Sorcerer Of All Time

While Jujutsu Kaisen explored many complex ideas with rich symbolism, a core theme was the idea of strength and how it impacts those who possess it. This concept was presented both directly through action and figuratively through the characters’ experiences with power.

Gojo and Sukuna were the most powerful characters in the series, but they used their strength in very different ways. Gojo felt deeply alone because no one could relate to his experiences, while Sukuna embraced his isolation, needing no connection to others. Gojo often depended on people, but Sukuna only trusted himself, and this fundamental difference in beliefs played a crucial role in how the story ended.

Does true strength come from being alone? Or is the constant drive for more power just a burden that strong people have to carry by themselves?

In the end, Sukuna won, defeating the only person who ever posed a real threat to him. His incredible power and independence demonstrated why he earned the title of King of Curses and was widely regarded as the most powerful Jujutsu sorcerer of all time.

Despite being more powerful than Gojo, Sukuna ultimately lost because his beliefs were weaker. Gojo focused on helping others grow stronger and working together, and it was this combined effort of all the heroes that finally defeated Sukuna.

Modulo Yuji Is Even Stronger Than Sukuna Ever Was

The New Honored One

While Sukuna was undoubtedly the strongest sorcerer in the original series, Yuji is likely even more powerful now. The final battle of Jujutsu Kaisen revealed Yuji beginning to awaken a wide range of incredible new skills.

He developed a unique ability similar to Sukuna’s Shrine, letting him easily slice through incredibly durable objects. Beyond that, he mastered Blood Manipulation, developed his own Cursed Technique focused on damaging an opponent’s soul, and unlocked a powerful Domain Expansion with unknown properties. As if that weren’t enough, Yuji also achieved an extraordinary level of control over his Cursed Energy, allowing him to unleash an unprecedented eight consecutive Black Flashes.

Considering his long experience, Yuji has clearly had ample time to become incredibly skilled, and may have even developed new abilities. While we don’t see a lot of his powers demonstrated in Modulo, he’s consistently presented as the most powerful figure of his era, much like Gojo was in his time.

Yuji made his official debut in Modulo by performing the incredibly powerful Piercing Blood technique – a skill only mastered by the most skilled Blood Manipulation users. His version of the technique was exceptionally strong, surpassing all previous displays. He unleashed multiple streams of blood simultaneously and precisely controlled their force, allowing him to injure his opponents without fatally piercing them.

He accomplished this seemingly effortlessly, claiming his only goal was to stop the conflict between humans and Simurians. But what happened next truly showcased his incredible power: he casually landed a Black Flash on his opponent, proving he can use this ability at any time.

Black Flash is a powerful attack that demands incredibly precise control over cursed energy. To activate it, a user must channel their energy just a fraction of a second before impact. Successfully landing a Black Flash not only increases damage but also boosts the user’s own cursed energy. It’s so difficult to execute consistently that even masters like Sukuna and Gojo can’t reliably perform it at will.

The man chosen by the sparks of black!

This proves Yuji has more control over Cursed Energy than Sukuna. But his real strength was revealed when Cursed Spirits attempted to escape Tokyo. He unleashed a Dismantle attack so powerful it instantly destroyed several buildings and eliminated all the Curses present.

People have compared Yuji’s Dismantle to Sukuna’s incredibly powerful World Cutting Slash. If it’s the same technique, Yuji’s version is even stronger because he doesn’t need to meet any special requirements to use it. If it’s a different move altogether, it still proves that Yuji’s Dismantle is comparable in power and range to Sukuna’s attack, solidifying his status as potentially the strongest sorcerer ever.

Jujutsu Kaisen can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
