Jujutsu Kaisen Reveals The Next Gojo Satoru Of Japan

Despite initial skepticism, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has been incredibly well-received by fans globally. Sequels rarely live up to the original, and it’s unusual for an author to outdo their previous work. However, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo is proving to be an exception. With a fresh cast of characters and a distinct feel, it may actually be better than the original Jujutsu Kaisen.

Nearly seven decades after the events of Jujutsu Kaisen, sorcerers still exist, but things have changed. Gojo Satoru is no longer protecting Japan, but a new generation of powerful sorcerers is emerging. While the author, Gege Akutami, hasn’t yet revealed any sorcerers or curse users at the highest level (Special Grade), two new characters show significant potential. Yuka Okkotsu, in particular, is being positioned as a successor to Gojo Satoru due to her strong connection to Yuta Okkotsu, who shared a familial link with Gojo through Michizane Sugawara.

When considering powerful sorcerers, Yuka Okkotsu is currently the most likely next-generation character to reach Gojo Satoru’s level. While this might seem surprising compared to Tsurugi Okkotsu, it’s important to consider how the author, Gege Akutami, developed both characters. Both Yuka and Tsurugi are the grandchildren of Maki and Yuta, but they admire different sorcerers. Yuka’s inspiration is much closer to Gojo Satoru than Tsurugi’s, suggesting a similar path for their abilities.

I want to be like Grandpa! — Yuka Okkotsu

Many fans may remember that Yuta Okkotsu was Gojo Satoru’s official student in Jujutsu Kaisen. Yuta possessed a remarkably large amount of Cursed Energy – even more than Gojo himself. Gojo explained that he and Yuta shared a connection through their ancestor, Michizane Sugawara, who was one of Japan’s three most powerful vengeful spirits. Because of this familial link, Yuta was able to temporarily lead the Gojo clan while Gojo was unavailable.

With Yuta Okkotsu’s passing, his replacement has been introduced: Yuka Okkotsu. Like Yuta, Yuka possesses a huge reserve of cursed energy, and she’s destined to gain access to Rika’s power as well. Her skill with cursed energy suggests she’s being set up to become the next powerful sorcerer, similar to Gojo Satoru.

Yuka Could Become The Strongest Sorcerer In Japan

Tsurugi Is More Like Maki

When it comes to powerful sorcerers in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, Yuka Okkotsu is expected to become one of the very best. Tsurugi also has great potential, but because he aims to be like Maki, and Maki wasn’t as strong as Yuta Okkotsu, Yuka is likely to become more powerful. If the story follows its original plan, Yuka will surpass Tsurugi once she gains full control of Rika and unlocks her domain expansion.

I’ve been following Tsurugi and Yuka, and it seems more probable that Tsurugi will eventually reach Yuka’s level. The way the author has built their relationship, they’re meant to grow alongside each other. That said, I think Tsurugi Okkotsu has the potential to become much stronger than Maki Zenin. However, because of his limited cursed energy and lack of traditional sorcery skills, most people will probably still see Yuka as the more powerful sorcerer.

Jujutsu Kaisen is a hugely popular action series. The original manga finished in late 2024 and is available to read online for free on Manga Plus, where new chapters used to be released every week. A sequel series, Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, is now running in Weekly Shonen Jump.
