As a long-time fan of Jujutsu Kaisen, I must say that the battle between Yuji Itadori and Ryomen Sukuna was nothing short of epic! The sheer power and determination displayed by both characters throughout their confrontation was truly breathtaking.
This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 268.
In more casual terms, “Jujutsu Kaisen” has wrapped up its most intense battle yet, with the Shinjuku Showdown arc drawing to a close. This storyline was packed with constant combat, featuring Sukuna squaring off against numerous formidable adversaries simultaneously. Throughout this epic fight, Sukuna had ample opportunity to demonstrate his extraordinary power, and he did not disappoint, performing impressively from the get-go until the very end.
Without a doubt, one of the most challenging aspects was finding an appropriate conclusion for the King of Curses. Now that Yuji Itadori’s battle has ended, fans can revisit the fight and determine if the ending lived up to the grandeur of the King of Curses or not.
Sukuna’s Performance In Shinjuku Showdown

- Sukuna Fought Yuji Itadori
It must be said that Sukuna’s performance in the Shinjuku Showdown Arc of Jujutsu Kaisen was absolutely phenomenal. This arc began for him with his battle against Gojo, and it is safe to say that he did a phenomenal job in this fight. Although Sukuna was often pushed back by the Strongest Modern Sorcerer, he did well to hold out and eventually went on to win the major clash. Sukuna defeated Gojo, but, fans know that a big reason why he won was because he had access to Megumi’s 10 Shadows Technique. Because of this technique, he was able to utilize Mahoraga, have him adapt to Infinity, and figure out a counter to Gojo’s powers. Once he figured that out, Sukuna was able to utilize the same blueprint to bypass Infinity, and with that, the defeat of the strongest modern sorcerer came about.
Farewell, Gojo Satoru! I shall never forget you for as long as I live! – Sukuna
Following Gojo’s demise, a raid against the King of Curses ensued, which led all sorcerers to charge onto the battlefield in a disorganized fashion, attempting to weaken his defenses by whatever means possible. Despite the thrill it offered, one could argue that the author didn’t manage to make this raid more exhilarating than the previous battle between Gojo and Sukuna. The confrontation between these two characters was the pinnacle of that arc and might even be the most memorable moment in the series thus far, regardless of the debate surrounding the controversial ending to their fight.
Beyond that point, spectators continued to appreciate the intense battle that ensued following Gojo’s conquest, with Sukuna showcasing extraordinary prowess in combat. His actions on the battlefield were undeniably deserving of admiration. Although he faced numerous sorcerers, he managed to hold his ground, but over time, he began to tire. However, it’s crucial to note that Yuji was progressively strengthening and becoming more adept in combat, eventually reaching a level comparable to a weaker form of the King of Curses. As soon as these two engaged in a balanced fight, Sukuna found himself in a precarious situation, with his back against the proverbial wall, signaling the commencement of his decline.
How Yuji Vs Sukuna Developed In JJK’s Final Arc
Yuji Itadori Gained New Techniques Before And During The Arc
In the aftermath of Gojo’s demise, Yuji Itadori swiftly charged onto the battleground, initially lacking the strength to challenge the King of Curses significantly. At that moment, he was significantly below his peak potential. However, during this confrontation, Yuji experienced an extraordinary growth in power, reaching astonishing heights. He transformed from a combatant who barely stood a chance against Sukuna, into one who actually outmatched him in battle, which was truly spectacular for the spectators. This transformation became particularly evident to the fans.
The turning point in the story occurred when Yuji unleashed the power of the Shrine technique. Following this awakening, he had reached a stage where he could move on to the next phase. Fans witnessed Yuji employing barrier skills too, but it was the fusion of these with his Shrine technique that created an impressive domain expansion. In this realm, Yuji Itadori proved to be extremely potent, as all his abilities were amplified dramatically. He managed to stand toe-to-toe against the King of Curses and even surpass him. This is where the fight against Sukuna essentially ended, with Yuji emerging victorious and defeating the King of Curses decisively.
As I faced off against this relentless foe, I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. I had to grind hard, leveling up significantly, and make some tough choices along the way. The battle took its toll on me, leaving me battered and bruised. And sadly, I lost allies who stood by my side – Higuruma, Yuta, and most painfully, Choso, who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Ryomen Sukuna Dies After Losing To Yuji In JJK
Sukuna Fell After The Domain Expansion Of Yuji Itadori
In the intense confrontation, Yuji Itadori defeated Ryomen Sukuna by unleashing a potent black burst, amplified by his domain. This blast was so strong it shattered his domain, sending Sukuna flying away. As he flew, he spat out fingers, leaving him behind in a pitiful puddle of goo. This left Sukuna’s spirit outside Megumi’s body. At this moment, Sukuna felt an overwhelming fear towards Yuji, realizing that his own life was now at stake. All he could do was witness his impending demise, and for the King of Curses, this was a humiliating end. Eventually, Yuji attempted to coerce Sukuna one last time, reminding him of their shared nature.
Don’t underestimate me, brat! I’m a curse! – Sukuna
In the narrative, I found myself yearning for Yuji to persuade Sukuna to experience life alongside him. Yet, instead of complying, the embodiment of curses retaliated against Yuji with a torrent of curses, leaving us in an unexpected and rather dismal turn of events. This sudden collapse was not only underwhelming but also unexpected by fans, as Sukuna and his faithful companion Uraume crumbled under the weight of this twist. Truly, this ending felt abrupt and unlike anything we had foreseen in the series.
Readers anticipated a more spectacular conclusion to Sukuna’s demise and a stronger showing from Yuji towards the end. The final showdown in Shinjuku Showdown Arc of JJK, as written by the author, raised some doubts, and several loose ends were left unaddressed. However, despite these concerns, Sukuna is now deceased, and it’s clear that Yuji Itadori has successfully eradicated a legendary curse that has haunted Japan for generations.
