Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Is Coming But There Is A Catch

This post contains spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen.

Season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen is expected to be one of the most popular anime releases of 2026. After a nearly three-year wait, fans are incredibly excited for its return. This new season will adapt the highly anticipated Culling Game arc, promising plenty of action.

Okay, everyone’s hyped, and rightfully so! But I’ve noticed something that doesn’t seem to be getting much attention. It has to do with how MAPPA is producing the third season of Jujutsu Kaisen, and honestly, it’s a bit concerning.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Is Divided Into Two Parts

  • JJK Season 3 is divided into two parts
  • Jujutsu Kaisen 3 will be returning in January 2026

The announcement of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 generated a lot of excitement, but a key detail went largely unnoticed: the season will be released in two parts. The first part is scheduled for January 2026, but MAPPA hasn’t announced a release date for the second part, wanting viewers to focus on the initial episodes. This split means the season won’t adapt the entire Culling Game arc at once. The first part will likely end with a cliffhanger to keep fans engaged, with the rest of the arc continuing in the second part of the anime.

JJK Fans Are Not Pleased With Season 3

The choice to split the third season of Jujutsu Kaisen (JJK) came as a surprise, particularly since the previous season finished almost three years ago in 2023. It seems MAPPA likely made this decision some time ago, given their workload with other projects. They recently released the Chainsaw Man Movie: Reze Arc, which was a big hit with fans who praised its animation and pacing. It even received a score of over 9 on MyAnimeList, making it one of the highest-rated anime currently available. Besides Chainsaw Man, MAPPA has also been working on four other series: Hell’s Paradise Season 2, Dorohedoro Season 2, Zenshuu, and Ranma ½.

It’s easy to see why making season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen took so long, and why it’s being released in two parts. While splitting the season might disappoint some fans, it will likely result in a better adaptation overall. Rushing to finish everything at once could have lowered the quality and upset viewers. This way, the team has more time to work without being overly stressed, ensuring a higher quality final product.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Is Going To Break Records

It’s understandable that fans might criticize MAPPA’s choices for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, but it’s likely to be a standout anime when it airs in 2026. MAPPA is committed to delivering high-quality animation, especially after making fans wait so long. Beyond the visuals, season 3 promises to introduce a lot of new and exciting characters, including powerful, ancient sorcerers.

Culling Game Will Be Full Of Action

Kenjaku is masterminding the Culling Game, and because he’s an incredibly old and knowledgeable sorcerer, he’s bringing back powerful figures from the past – specifically, those from the Heian Era. This means we can expect to see some significant characters introduced in Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, including:

  • Naoya Zenin
  • Kinji Hakari
  • Yorozu
  • Hajime Kashimo
  • Fumihiko Takaba
  • Hana Kurusu
  • Hiromi Higuruma

Okay, I’m so excited about the new characters coming up, but let’s be real, Gojo Satoru’s absence is going to be huge. He was the strongest, after all! With him sealed away, everything in the Jujutsu Kaisen world is about to shift dramatically. Cursed spirits are going to be bolder, and the sorcerers are seriously weakened. But honestly, I think Itadori Yuji is going to feel it the most. Gojo was the only thing keeping those higher-ups from finishing him off, and now Yuji is completely on his own – it’s going to be a tough fight for him!
