While the show has greatly benefited from his talent, recent developments suggest things may be changing behind the scenes.

Shota Goshozono has been the lead director for the first part of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, personally handling the storyboarding and directing most of the episodes. However, it’s now been reported that Goshozono may leave the series entirely after this first part of the Culling Game is finished.

Now that news has surfaced about Shota Goshozono leaving MAPPA, it all clicks into place. It seems this was his final contribution to Jujutsu Kaisen, and perhaps to anime in general. Reports suggest he’s moving to France to join Illumination Studios Paris, known for films like Despicable Me.

Jujutsu Kaisen Will Have To Find A Worthy Replacement

I’m so excited about Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Part 2! From what I understand, production is already underway, which probably means we have a new director leading the charge. It’ll be interesting to see if they brought back the original director, or if someone fresh is bringing their own creative spin to the show. Either way, I can’t wait to see what they come up with!

What Shouta Goshazono achieved with the first part of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 was exceptional, and it will be a challenge to match that level of quality. However, that doesn’t mean the second part won’t be great. Japan has many incredibly skilled animation directors and storyboard artists who are capable of producing something truly impressive. While it might not be quite as good as the first part, it still has the potential to be fantastic.
