As a seasoned fan of Jujutsu Kaisen, I must say, the fight against Sukuna was nothing short of epic! The characters displayed incredible strength and determination that left us all on the edge of our seats.
This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen’s Shinjuku Showdown Arc.
Key Takeaways
- Nobara’s Resonance saved Yuji by hitting Sukuna’s soul hard.
- Ui Ui’s support role secured fallen bodies, aiding survival.
- Choso sacrificed himself to save Yuji from Sukuna’s wrath.
In the final stretch of the Shinjuku battle, Jujutsu Kaisen’s climactic confrontation unfolded between numerous potent Sorcerers and Ryomen Sukuna, the Monarch of Curses. Sukuna represented a formidable danger to humanity in JJK, necessitating his neutralization.
Indeed, vanquishing Sukuna necessitated the peak abilities of the main characters from the series, and each one contributed significantly to his defeat. It’s only natural that their contributions varied, with the most powerful and crucial characters taking on the most substantial roles during the fight against him.
8 Nobara
Joined The Battle At The End
- Contribution: Delivered Resonance
At the culmination of their fierce battle with Sukuna, Nobara Kugisaki made her entrance. Though her involvement was minimal in the fight, it proved decisive. She managed to save Yuji Itadori’s life and inflict lethal damage on Sukuna’s soul. Her Resonance packs a powerful punch against souls, and she utilized this skill effectively, granting Yuji the opportunity to execute his potent Black Flash technique and shielding him from Sukuna opening a domain against him.
She might not have played an extended role in the fight, but, just one Resonance was enough to put the king of curses on his knees.
7 Ui Ui
Played A Support Role
- Contribution: Took Away Fallen Bodies
Ui Ui is often overlooked, but his role in the Shinjuku Showdown Arc is significantly more impactful than people might think. Unlike other characters, he didn’t fight Sukuna head-on. Instead, he played a crucial part in ensuring the survival of many others. A prime example of this is when Gojo Satoru died. In that critical moment, it was Ui Ui who safely retrieved and transported Gojo’s body elsewhere.
When Yuta sustained a blow, he transported himself, as well as Higuruma, Kusakabe, and others, to different places. This ability allowed Yuta to exchange bodies with Gojo, who then returned to the fight, thereby averting Sukuna from defeating Itadori in battle.
6 Choso
Jumped In After Gojo’s Defeat
- Contribution: Saved Yuji’s Life
As a devoted admirer of this captivating narrative, I must confess that Choso wasn’t the one squaring off directly with Sukuna during the epic battle we all witnessed. Truth be told, their confrontations were few and far between, and when they did occur, Sukuna held an undeniable edge. This disparity was unmistakable to us fans.
Despite not receiving recognition for his actions, Choso played a crucial role by shielding Yuji Itadori from the King of Curses’ wrath. In the heat of battle, when Sukuna activated his domain and used the devastating Furnace technique, which would have obliterated everyone present, it was Choso who selflessly gave up his life to construct a barrier using his own blood around his brother. Although he lost his life in the process, Yuji managed to survive, which was Choso’s ultimate goal. By saving Yuji, he effectively saved everyone else as well.
5 Maki Zenin
Jumped In After Gojo’s Fall
- Contribution: Stabbed Sukuna’s Heart And Kept Him Busy
In the Shinjuku Showdown, Maki Zenin played a crucial part by swiftly striking Sukuna’s heart immediately following her entry into the fray. Moreover, she effectively occupied Sukuna during the battle, giving Yuji ample opportunities to strike him repeatedly.
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but express my awe as Maki devoured not just one, but two formidable black flashes from the King of Curses! Her showdown with him was nothing short of electrifying. However, if given the chance by Gege, she could have undoubtedly added more depth to her performance.
4 Aoi Todo
Joined After Divine Flame
- Contribution: Saved Sorcerers, Aided Yuji
Aoi Todo astonished fans by reappearing on the battlefield following Choso’s demise, an event that no one had anticipated. To everyone’s surprise, he emerged more powerful than ever before, and this time, he came back armed with a revitalized Boogie Woogie technique. He traded his original limb for a vibraslap, enabling him to execute up to 50 swaps per second. Additionally, by making a vow that left spectators blinded, he can decrease the number of swaps and expand his combat range.
Fundamentally, Todo was an unbeatable force that even the King of Curses acknowledged could not be easily challenged. It was largely due to him that many sorcerers, such as Maki, Ino, Miwa, and others, managed to endure Sukuna’s fiery ordeal. Additionally, he played a significant role in enabling multiple Black Flashes for Yuji, and provided Angel with the opportunity to deploy her formidable Jacob’s Ladder attack from above.
3 Yuta Okkotsu
Kept Sukuna On The Ropes
- Contribution: Saved Yuji, Damaged Sukuna Greatly
In the battle against Sukuna, it came as no surprise that Yuta Okkotsu played a pivotal role. He had already neutralized Kenjaku’s backup plan by taking his life during the initial raid. Subsequently, he charged onto the battlefield and utilized his Domain Expansion to challenge Sukuna. Within this domain, Yuta managed to weaken Sukuna substantially. Despite being incapacitated by the World Splitting Dismantle, Yuta miraculously recovered and this time, he was accompanied by Gojo’s body.
He was able to utilize Unlimited Void and then, attacked the King of Curses with a powerful Hollow Purple. Of course, his Hollow Purple was lacking in strength because he wasn’t used to either the technique or the body. But, his performance was certainly magnificent and he saved Yuji on more than one occasion.
2 Yuji Itadori
Awakened Great Powers In Shinjuku
- Contribution: Defeated Ryomen Sukuna
In the show’s storyline, Yuji Itadori played a crucial role in the fight against Sukuna. His powerful, spirit-harming blows significantly weakened Sukuna, effectively leading to his defeat.
Yuji skillfully incorporated moves like Dismantle, leaving the Monarch of Curses nearly prostrate. He successfully breached his domain and vanquished the Monarch of Curses within. If not for iGojo, Yuji would undoubtedly be recognized as the top performer.
1 Gojo Satoru
The Strongest Fought The King
- Contribution: Took Away 10 Shadows Technique, Took Away RCT, Took Away Malevolent Shrine, Weakened Sukuna
In the epic battle against Sukuna, it was Gojo who made the most significant impact. Not only did he confront a highly potent form of Sukuna, but he also utilized not one, but two innate abilities – the 10 Shadows Technique and the Shrine. Remarkably, despite these immense challenges, Gojo managed to keep Sukuna at bay effortlessly, inflicting severe damage on him.
By destroying Mahoraga, Gojo dismantled Sukuna’s 10 Shadows Technique. Moreover, he incapacitated Sukuna’s domain by damaging his brain with Unlimited Void and rendered his reverse cursed technique inoperable. Essentially, Gojo left Sukuna powerless and unable to regenerate his techniques. Had Mahoraga not been there, Gojo would have likely defeated Sukuna single-handedly.
