This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 265.

In its Final Saga, “Jujutsu Kaisen” has won hearts with this storyline segment. At present, the narrative revolves around Yuji’s fierce battle against Sukuna, the Cursed King. This confrontation has met all anticipations, but the most exciting part is yet to unfold as viewers have yet to witness Yuji fully unleashing his powers.

Actually, he hasn’t fully gotten used to his recently activated abilities, which are known as the Shrine technique, similar to Sukuna’s. Interestingly enough, their powers share a commonality – they both employ the Shrine method. Nevertheless, there are notable distinctions between Yuji’s implementation of the Shrine and Sukuna’s usage of this specific technique.

Sukuna’s Shrine Technique

  • The Original
  • Used For Indiscriminate Massacre

In Jujutsu Kaisen, Sukuna exhibited the formidable might of his Shrine technique from the get-go. As a top-tier sorcerer, his cursed technique ranks among the strongest seen throughout the series. To put it simply, Sukuna’s abilities are akin to those of a master chef wielding a set of sharp knives. He uses these tools to dismember and weaken his adversaries with Cleave and Dismantle techniques. The former allows him to control the energy needed for slicing enemies, while the latter can swiftly annihilate them. Among Sukuna’s repertoire, Cleave and Dismantle are particularly powerful attacks. Additionally, his technique includes other impressive capabilities like World Splitting Dismantle, which grants him the ability to cut through anything within the world.

Beyond this, Sukuna possesses a unique ability called Furnace, accessible solely by him following the use of Cleave and Dismantle. In essence, he can set his foes ablaze with fire, annihilating them entirely. These talents are what truly set Sukuna apart. Upon infusing these abilities into his domain, Sukuna constructs a Malevolent Shrine that delivers devastating blows to his adversaries, obliterating them completely. It’s fair to say that Sukuna’s Malevolent Shrine, as well as his cursed techniques overall, ranks among the most potent fans have witnessed throughout the series, contributing significantly to his unbeatable status as a sorcerer.

Initially, the Shrine’s forbidden technique was exclusively wielded by Sukuna, but he isn’t its sole user. In fact, the main character, Yuji, has recently acquired this power too. This development started early on in the series when Yuji became Sukuna’s host. Gojo hinted that over time, Yuji would absorb Sukuna’s cursed energy, allowing him to use his own techniques. However, this didn’t occur until later in the narrative. Fortunately, the writers didn’t forget about this idea and Shoko clarified it later on. Finally, during the last arc of JJK, when Yuji unleashed a powerful black flash against the King of Curses, his hidden abilities were triggered, granting him access to this remarkable power.

Beneath the sparks of black…Yuji Itadori awakens!

After stunning the ruler of curses, it was evident, though reluctant to acknowledge it, Yuji possessed great sorcerous abilities. In fact, Uraume asserted that his potential rivaled that of Sukuna, implying a possibility for him to become the most powerful character in the series in the future.

It’s evident that Yuji and Sukuna share the same cursed technique, yet they exhibit distinct variations. This twist took fans by surprise as they didn’t anticipate such disparities.

Although the author’s explanation behind it is clear and intriguing, fans haven’t had many opportunities to see Yuji use the Shrine technique. He’s only used it a few times so far, but it definitely looks captivating. The most impressive displays are still to come. Interestingly, Yuji hasn’t demonstrated his unique take on domain expansion with this technique yet, which is expected to differ significantly from Sukuna’s approach.

The Difference Between Yuji And Sukuna’s Shrine

Yuji And Sukuna Utilize Their Technique In Very Different Ways

In essence, the distinction between Yuji’s Shrine and Sukuna’s lies in their methods. Unlike Sukuna, who employs abilities like Cleave and Dismantle, and subsequently Furnace, due to being a chef, Yuji uses scissors instead. He creates cuts around people with his scissors and chops off what he considers necessary. Consequently, Yuji’s technique for using the Shrine is distinct from Sukuna’s in its execution. While both may use Dismantle and possibly Cleave, Yuji’s approach to cutting is more precise.

1. Option A: He uses scissors to indicate which pieces to remove, then trims only the necessary parts, keeping the remainder unharmed. However, Sukuna has an indiscriminate approach; he essentially unleashes slashes haphazardly, resulting in a brutal massacre of anyone in his path.

Yuji uses his techniques uniquely by incorporating spiritual energy, as demonstrated when he harms opponents’ souls with regular strikes and amplifies that effect with his Shrine technique, where cuts are imbued with soul-damaging power. Instead of attacking enemies physically, he targets their spirits, inflicting lethal harm. In fact, a series of blows was potent enough to force Sukuna to eject fingers and temporarily lose his form. Sukuna acknowledged that enduring such attacks in his current state would lead to defeat for him, highlighting the extreme danger posed by Yuji’s cursed skill.

Although Yuji’s cursed technique doesn’t indiscriminately cut everything around him like some others do, it stands out uniquely due to its safety and non-destructive nature. Unlike Sukuna’s technique, it’s designed for security rather than chaos. We can expect Yuji to incorporate this technique into his domain, but its outcome is unclear at the moment. Fans are eagerly waiting to witness more of Yuji’s Shrine technique in Jujutsu Kaisen, and it’s possible that he has an ultimate technique similar to Sukuna’s Furnace. However, as of now, we don’t know what that might be.
