Jujutsu Kaisen: The Sukuna Easter Egg in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo You Totally Missed

This article contains spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo manga.

I just saw the first chapter of *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo* drop, and the fanbase is already going wild! Everyone’s zooming in on every little detail in the manga, trying to figure out how this spin-off connects to the original *Jujutsu Kaisen*. We know Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin’s grandkids are the main characters, but a lot of people are really hoping to see familiar faces like Yuji Itadori and Sukuna show up at some point.

Fans recently discovered a hidden reference to Sukuna in the first chapter of *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo*. The detail was subtly changed during translation, causing many to miss it. Although Sukuna hasn’t appeared yet in this new series, this Easter egg suggests he could play a significant role in the story again.

Sukuna Is Still Dead in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo

Sukuna’s Comeback Hasn’t Happened Yet

  • Sukuna is still missing in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo
  • Sukuna died in the original series, but fans want him back.

In the original Jujutsu Kaisen series,Ryomen Sukuna, otherwise known as the King of Curses, terrorized the Jujutsu world with his terrifying strength, unnecessary killings, and twisted sense of honor. He had no concern for anyone else, for he existed only for leisure and amusement, exploiting anyone, especiallyYuji Itadori and Megumi Fushiguro, for his benefit and convenience.

Ryomen Sukuna is often seen as the ultimate evil, completely dismissive of human life. But he wasn’t simply destructive; Sukuna recognized and respected strength in others, and surprisingly, he’d keep his promises if it boosted his ego or upheld his sense of honor. Despite these unexpected traits, he remained incredibly cruel, responsible for the deaths of numerous sorcerers, including Gojo Satoru.

No matter what era it is, you jujutsu sorcerers are a pain.—Ryomen Sukuna

Sukuna, the major villain in Jujutsu Kaisen, was defeated by Yuji Itadori and his friends. He hasn’t reappeared in the follow-up series, JJK Modulo, but fans are still hoping for his return. Interestingly, the author, Gege, subtly included Sukuna in the very first chapter of Modulo, hinting at a possible comeback.

The Wordplay on the Simurian’s Mothership Naunax

  • The Japanese name of the Simurian Mothership can be spelled as Naunakusu.
  • Naunakusu is Sukuna’s name read backwards.

The first chapter of *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo*, called “Special Grade Incident,” introduced a new alien race called the Simurians. These beings are searching for a new home, and they’ve become interested in Japan after learning that jujutsu sorcerers there share similar powers. It was revealed that 50,000 Simurians are traveling aboard a massive ship called the Naunax, seeking a safe haven.

Fans have discovered a hidden connection in the *Jujutsu Kaisen* pilot chapter. The name of the Simurian mothership, Naunax, is written with Japanese characters that, when pronounced, sound like Sukuna’s name spelled backwards. This appears to be a deliberate Easter egg placed by the manga’s author, Gege Akutami, in the version of the story known as *Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo*.

The new reference makes it much easier to see a possible connection between the alien race from JJK Modulo and Ryomen Sukuna. Fans are already speculating that Sukuna might be a Simurian, or that he was reborn as Maru, the enigmatic character who befriended Yuka and Tsurugi. While it’s all just theory at this point, this hint about Sukuna has excited fans and given them hope for a surprising return of the King of Curses in the future.

Other Easter Eggs in JJK Modulo Chapter 1

There Are One Piece References

Surprisingly, the latest chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen, Chapter 1 of Modulo, includes a couple of hidden references to One Piece. On page 10, a small manga panel in the background depicts Shanks placing a straw hat on Luffy – a well-known scene from One Piece. Though it’s a subtle detail, observant fans quickly spotted the nod to the classic anime and manga.

A second nod to One Piece appears in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo and is more obvious. On page 42, Yuka recalls her brother Tsurugi practicing with a barbell-a scene very similar to early training moments with Roronoa Zoro, who also uses a barbell, though with much heavier weights.

Given these early connections, we can expect to see more references – both obvious and hidden – to popular anime and manga like One Piece, Naruto, Dragon Ball, and Bleach in future installments of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.
