In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, the ominous saga of the Cursed Wombs is introduced promptly. Characters Yuuji Itadori and Nobara Kugisaki engage in a fierce fight against the twin brothers Kechizu and Eso. Upon their demise, their elder brother perceives their fate and swears vengeance upon their slayer. Among the Cursed Wombs’ Death Paintings brethren, Choso stands as the most formidable, a powerful relative of the Kamo clan, boasting an extraordinary cursed ability known as Blood Manipulation that outclasses Noritoshi Kamo of Kyoto. In combat with Itadori, Choso nearly claims his life; however, their blood mixes, disclosing to Choso that, like him, Itadori is a descendant of Kenjaku. From this moment forth, Choso pledges his loyalty and protection to Itadori, viewing him as his brother.

Choso stands out as one of the most intriguing figures within the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. His distinctive appearance is complemented by captivating, action-packed abilities. The relationship between him and Itadori develops significantly over the course of the story, and it seems he’ll play a crucial role in what’s to come. However, some readers express disappointment regarding how his character was handled towards the end of the manga.

A Loving Brother Through the End

In a surprising twist, Choso’s exceptional qualities stem from his heartfelt writing style. A recurring motif in Jujutsu Kaisen is the questionable morality of its characters; many who appear virtuous are actually self-serving and corrupt. The antagonists, on the other hand, are predominantly evil. Itadori appears to be the sole genuinely good character in this series. However, Choso adds a unique touch. Choso values his brotherly bond above any malicious schemes by Kenjaku. He cherishes his brothers more than anything else in existence. After Kechizu and Eso are slain, he becomes singularly focused on seeking revenge. And when he learns that their murderer is also a family member, he is overwhelmed with bewilderment and remorse. From then on, he makes Itadori’s safety his top priority, shielding him like a devoted elder brother.

Choso, in an unexpected turn, distanced himself from Kenjaku, suggesting his loyalty was not with him but his kin instead – a clear contrast to other curses. Unlike most series characters, he initially appeared as a villain but held values opposite to the norm. He doesn’t pursue a global mission of salvation or destruction; rather, his heart lies in safeguarding his family. Interestingly, this puts him in a parallel with the protagonist, Yuuji Itadori, hinting at a potential blood relationship and shared characteristics they may not fully realize.

So Much To Live Up To

A Beloved Character Cast Aside

In the Culling Games and the clash with Sukuna, Choso appeared to be mostly sidelined throughout the majority of the action. While he did engage in a thrilling battle with Kenjaku alongside Yuki Tsukumo, Choso had limited involvement overall. Given that Jujutsu Kaisen emphasizes intense battles and collaborative group fights, it seemed that Choso had fewer chances to display his abilities. However, he eventually joined the fray against Sukuna, indicating there was potential for a more significant role.

In a straightforward manner, it can be said that Choso was undeniably a formidable combatant, managing to battle Itadori on equal grounds, standing strong against both Kenjaku and Sukuna in group fights, and even causing some difficulties for Kenjaku with his Blood Manipulation abilities. He was an engaging character, whether in the heat of battle or during peaceful moments. However, much like other intriguing aspects of the manga, it seems that Choso’s storyline was somewhat sidelined and rushed towards a conclusion.

Nonetheless, I must walk ahead of my little brothers. That’s why I’m strong.

Choso bravely gave up his life to shield Itadori from Sukuna’s onslaught, realizing his personal mission to safeguard his brother. However, following Sukuna’s conquest, Choso’s demise wasn’t appropriately recognized, and he lacked a fitting farewell. Interestingly enough, this was also true for Satoru Gojo. It seems unusual that author Gege Akutami didn’t take the time to honor these widely admired characters in a manner befitting their significance.

Choso displayed impressive battles, captivating narrative, a unique sense of ethics compared to other characters, and striking powers. However, author Akutami had the potential to explore this intriguing character even further. In a poignant ending, Itadori’s protective older brother met his end, sacrificing himself for his sibling. Unfortunately, his selfless act didn’t receive the recognition it truly merited.
