The popular manga series Jujutsu Kaisen finished its initial run in 2024 after the final battle against Sukuna. Now, the creator Gege Akutami has returned with a sequel called Jujutsu Kaisen: Modulo. This new series is currently at its most exciting point, featuring thrilling and action-packed fights. The story focuses on new characters, Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, who are currently involved in two major conflicts.

Gege Akutami plans for Tsurugi Okkotsu to follow a similar path to Maki Zenin, and recent developments in Jujutsu Kaisen show him undergoing a remarkable change, becoming a powerful fighter even without using cursed energy. Tsurugi, Maki Zenin’s grandson, has reached his full potential, achieving a level of strength comparable to Toji Fushiguro and Maki herself. He’s now capable of fighting independently and could potentially become a Special Grade sorcerer without relying on Rika.

Maki Zenin and Toji Fushiguro Were Superhumans Due To Their Heavenly Restriction

In the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, sorcerers are naturally born with a special energy called cursed energy, which they use to perform Jujutsu. Characters like Sukuna, Yuta, and Gojo possess incredibly large amounts of this energy, making it essential for combat.

Heavenly Restriction is a unique ability that drastically alters a person’s potential. Unlike most sorcerers who rely on cursed energy, those with Heavenly Restriction typically don’t possess any at all. Instead, they become incredibly powerful through sheer physical strength. So far in Jujutsu Kaisen, only two characters have demonstrated the full extent of this ability.

  • Toji Fushiguro: The first character that fans saw with a full Heavenly Restriction was Toji, Megumi’s father who abandoned the Zenin Clan due to their treatment of him. Known to have been born with a special body, Toji Fushiguro went on to become a terrifying Sorcerer Killer, and with this power, he almost took down Gojo Satoru until he awakened. Toji’s physical gift was such that even Gojo couldn’t compete with him before the awakening of his Cursed Technique Reversal.
  • Maki Zenin: The second Heavenly Restricted individual fans meet is another Zenin named Maki. Unlike Toji, who was seemingly born with a full Heavenly Restriction, Maki did have some amount of cursed energy for a long while in the story, even though it was a negligible amount. However, things changed for her shortly before the Culling Game arc. Given that the Jujutsu world sees twins as one being, Maki’s cursed energy and Mai both needed to go for her to be fully restricted. As long as Mai held cursed energy and Mai had traces in her body, she would remain weak. With her sister’s death, all her cursed energy disappeared, and she reached the same level as Toji Fushiguro, completely annihilating the Zenin clan.

People born without cursed energy, like Maki, possess incredible abilities that make them surprisingly powerful. Sukuna, despite being the King of Curses, couldn’t detect Maki’s approach because she doesn’t have any cursed energy for him to sense. This lack of energy also makes them immune to most powerful attacks, and their senses are far beyond human limits. These individuals have immense potential and incredibly durable bodies, as demonstrated by Maki surviving two direct hits from Sukuna’s full-powered Black Flash without significant injury.

In the world of Jujutsu, Toji and Maki were previously the only known individuals with Heavenly Restriction. However, a third character has now emerged with this rare ability: Tsurugi Okkotsu, the grandson of Maki and Yuta.

Okay, so before Chapter 20 of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, things got really intense! Tsurugi was struggling against Maru, so he actually summoned the power of Rika – you know, that super strong Cursed Spirit Yuta used to control. It was wild because Rika basically took over his body, creating this incredibly powerful, almost hybrid-like fighter! With Rika’s abilities, Tsurugi completely turned the tables on Maru, showing off some seriously impressive strength and easily dominating the fight.

In the latest Jujutsu Kaisen chapter, Rika separated from Tsurugi, completely draining his cursed energy. This suggests Tsurugi has completed his Heavenly Restriction, leaving him with no cursed energy – essentially becoming a normal person.

As a Jujutsu Kaisen fan, I was really wondering how Tsurugi managed to complete his Heavenly Restriction. It felt weird, especially knowing Toji was born with it and Maki was held back by her twin. Tsurugi barely had any cursed energy, and it didn’t seem like he could even lose it, but Gege just dropped the perfect explanation! It all makes sense now, and it’s all thanks to Rika. With Tsurugi Okkotsu now having mastered his Heavenly Restriction, his potential is comparable to powerful sorcerers like Toji Fushiguro and Maki Zenin.

Tsurugi was a well-trained fighter, having been taught by Maki during his childhood. He even has a unique ability – a Simple Domain – that neither Toji nor Maki had ever demonstrated. It’s probable that Maki learned this technique after the battle with Sukuna and then taught it to Tsurugi.

In Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 20, Tsurugi obtained Maki’s most valuable possession: the Split Soul Katana. This weapon was created by Mai using her unique technique shortly before her death, and a part of her spirit now resides within it. The Split Soul Katana is incredibly powerful, capable of directly damaging the soul of anyone it cuts, bypassing any physical protection.

Until recently, the location of this sword was a mystery, but it’s now known it was kept safe in Rika’s weapon storage, waiting for the right moment and to be given to Tsurugi. Just as Yuka receives a ring from her grandfather, Yuta Okkotsu, Tsurugi also receives an inheritance from his grandmother, Maki.

Tsurugi Okkotsu is incredibly strong with his Heavenly Restriction, but he’s still developing the battle experience that Maki and Toji had. Both Maki and Toji faced numerous powerful opponents and honed their skills through intense fights – Maki during the Culling Game and against Sukuna, and Toji when he defeated Gojo and Geto. If Tsurugi continues to grow, particularly after the events of Modulo, he has the potential to reach and even exceed their level of strength.
