Jujutsu Kaisen: Why Megumi Might Be The Strongest Modern Sorcerer After Gojo

This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen‘s Shinjuku Showdown.

The manga series Jujutsu Kaisen concluded in 2024, and the anime is now in its third season. The ending focused on Yuji, Megumi, and Nobara continuing their journeys as sorcerers, stepping up to lead the next generation following Gojo’s legacy. As the main character and due to his connection with the powerful curse Sukuna, Yuji was key to their victory. During the final battle, he surpassed his previous limits, positioning himself to become the strongest sorcerer, just like Gojo.

While Yuji Itadori is likely the strongest sorcerer currently, he’s not the only one with the potential to reach that level in Jujutsu Kaisen. Yuta Okkotsu is already incredibly powerful, and Megumi Fushiguro is also showing significant growth and could eventually rival even Yuji, potentially matching the strength of their teacher. Megumi’s development in the final part of the series suggests he might become a serious contender for the title of strongest sorcerer.

The sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen began in September 2025 and offers some clues about what happens to Megumi. However, we’re only discussing the original manga to avoid spoilers. If you’re curious about Megumi’s fate and don’t mind being spoiled about Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, you can find more information in this article.

Megumi’s Potential To Rival Gojo Satoru

  • Megumi Has The Inherited Technique Of Ten Shadows
  • Megumi Could Match Gojo

Megumi Fushiguro always showed the possibility of becoming as strong as Gojo. Coming from one of the three most powerful families gives him a huge advantage. However, even within his family, Megumi was exceptional. He was born with a rare and powerful cursed technique called the Ten Shadows, which isn’t something every member of the Zenin family can inherit. Those who do possess it have the potential to become incredibly strong.

Do you get what I’m trying to say? – Gojo

Megumi’s Potential To Equal Gojo

Megumi possesses an extraordinary level of skill. Gojo once explained that years ago, the heads of the Gojo and Zenin families – both inheriting techniques similar to their own, Limitless and the Ten Shadows, respectively – fought each other. This battle between the two powerful sorcerers ended in a draw, with both leaders ultimately dying in the conflict.

I’m honestly convinced Megumi has the potential to become as powerful as Gojo! He’s just naturally gifted with an incredible level of talent, but it’s not enough on its own. He really needs to push himself, train relentlessly, and reach the same heights as powerhouses like Gojo and Sukuna. And you know what? He is putting in that work – he’s clearly taken that advice to heart and is training like crazy!

By the time of the Culling Game, Megumi had become significantly more powerful. He had much better control over his Ten Shadows Technique, and even his incomplete Domain Expansion was becoming a real threat. However, he still had a lot of room to grow, meaning he could potentially become even stronger. Mastering the Ten Shadows Technique alone could make him the most powerful sorcerer of his generation. But, his time being possessed by Sukuna might allow him to reach a level of power beyond even that.

The Case For Megumi Fushiguro Having Shrine

Megumi Fushiguro Might Be Able To Use Sukuna’s Shrine

During the Culling Game arc of Jujutsu Kaisen, Sukuna took control of Megumi Fushiguro’s body. This happened after Sukuna spoke the word “Enchain” and then suppressed Megumi’s soul. While Sukuna gained a lot from possessing Megumi, actively using his body had an unexpected benefit: Megumi’s muscle memory allowed him to learn and grow stronger. This process was similar to what happened with Yuji Itadori, who was able to inherit the Shrine technique from Sukuna because Sukuna’s energy had permeated his body. Just as Yuji became proficient with Shrine through repeated use and muscle memory, Megumi also stood to gain from Sukuna’s occupation of his body.

Winning by dying and winning even if you die are two completely different things! – Gojo

Megumi has a similar potential to inherit this power, though it’s currently unconfirmed if he can. If Yuji was able to inherit the technique, there’s no logical reason why Megumi couldn’t as well. While Yuji’s connection to Sukuna might be a factor, the story hasn’t confirmed that. Megumi, like Yuji, demonstrated the ability to resist Sukuna, which suggests he’s also a viable candidate.

If Megumi took over the Shrine, he’d likely become the most powerful character in JJK, assuming he fully develops his abilities. This is because he’d gain access to incredibly strong techniques like Malevolent Shrine and even World Splitting Dismantle. Since Sukuna already mastered these techniques within his own body, Megumi should be able to learn them more quickly. This is a significant advantage of having Sukuna’s power inside him.

Fans also remember that Sukuna became much stronger by using the Ten Shadows Technique within his own body. Like Sukuna, Megumi should be able to master abilities similar to Piercing Blood using Max Elephant. He could potentially create the powerful fusion, Agito, and, unlike before, effectively control Mahoraga. Megumi has all the potential to become incredibly strong, and if he fully develops his abilities, he could become the most powerful sorcerer of his generation in Jujutsu Kaisen.

Could Megumi Be Stronger Than Yuji?

Megumi Would Be Over Yuji’s Level With Both Shrine and 10 Shadows

Okay, so right now, Yuji is definitely the stronger fighter, and it’s pretty clear. But honestly, Megumi has so much potential! If he can really master all ten of his Shadow Techniques, he could become unbelievably powerful. The biggest thing is getting a Mahoraga that’s on par with the one Sukuna used against Gojo under his control. Plus, he needs to perfect creating fusion beasts like Agito, and really learn all his techniques inside and out. If he can do all that and achieve a perfect Domain Expansion, I truly believe Megumi could become just as strong, if not stronger, than Yuji. It’s all about unlocking that potential!

Because Sukuna’s techniques have become part of Megumi’s own body, he’s poised to become a much more skilled fighter. Plus, if he inherits the Shrine, he could potentially become even stronger than Yuji, and maybe even rival the power of Gojo and Sukuna themselves – becoming the most powerful sorcerer of the current era.

It’s uncertain if fans will ever see this come to fruition, as there are currently no plans for more of the series. However, it’s still enjoyable to speculate about what Megumi could become.
