Jujutsu Kaisen: Why Todo Was The MVP Of The Series

Key Takeaways

  • Gojo’s belief in lifting others up over being alone prevailed in the end, highlighting the theme of support.
  • Aoi Todo played a vital role as Yuji’s support system in battles and pivotal moments throughout the series.
  • Todo’s Cursed Technique “Boogie Woogie” and selfless nature made him an indispensable character in Jujutsu Kaisen.

As a dedicated fan of Jujutsu Kaisen, I can’t help but feel a profound admiration for one character in particular – Tengen Uzui, or simply Todo, as he’s often referred to by his friends. His storyline, particularly his interactions with Yuji Itadori, paints a vivid picture of camaraderie, resilience, and sacrifice that truly resonates within the depths of my heart.

“Jujutsu Kaisen wouldn’t have been as impactful without its focus on friendship and teamwork. This was particularly evident with the beloved character Gojo, whose pivotal moments shone during his much-anticipated battle against Sukuna. These characters embodied contrasting philosophies; while Gojo aimed to uplift others so no one would feel isolated, Sukuna solely trusted in himself.

From the way the tale unfolded, it’s evident that Gojo’s philosophy prevailed, emphasizing the vital role of support within Jujutsu Kaisen. In light of this, no character may have been more instrumental and beneficial than the legendary Aoi Todo, who appears to be the key factor enabling Yuji to surmount his most formidable challenges. Thus, let’s delve into the pivotal role Todo played in the narrative.

Story ArcFearsome Womb Arc

Initially, when Todo entered the series, it was unexpected how his character’s narrative would unfold. At first, he appeared as a fierce and hot-tempered sorcerer who brutally attacked Megumi due to her seemingly dull taste in women, which left fans bewildered but intrigued. However, during the Kyoto Goodwill Event, it was revealed that Todo had planned to do the same to Yuji until they discovered a shared interest in women, leading Todo to envision a whole life filled with friendship between them.

Following his comparison of Yuji to both his dearest friend and sibling, Todo emerged as an outstanding supportive character throughout the series. This notable trait was initially displayed during the same arc when Jujutsu High faced Hanami, a high-tier Cursed Spirit. Despite their abilities far exceeding their capabilities, Yuji and Todo collaborated effectively, employing their Cursed Techniques in sync to defeat the Cursed Spirit. Their interactions were seamless and complementary, making them an excellent team.

Within the scope of my method, there are various elements that could be exchanged. Not just living entities, but also destroyed bodies and inanimate objects fall under its purview as well!

Despite his crucial role in every battle, Todo’s growth was particularly evident in non-combat scenarios. For instance, during the fight against Hanami, he noticed that Yuji was struggling. He sternly reprimanded him, even giving him a firm slap, which helped Yuji understand the importance of controlling his anger. This allowed them to deliver an overwhelming defeat to Hanami! Similarly, towards the end of the series, in the battle against Sukuna, Todo made a timely appearance to rescue everyone and assist Yuji once more in his hour of need.

Yet, Todo’s finest portrayal as a remarkable supporting character can be seen during Yuji’s confrontation with Mahito. In the narrative, Mahito stands out as one of Yuji’s most formidable adversaries due to their stark contrast and opposing ideologies, much like Gojo and Sukuna. After Mahito mercilessly took the lives of dear friends such as Nobara and Junpei, Yuji reached a point of deep despair, almost resignation.

In a non-resistant manner, Mahito had an opportunity to instantly kill him. But it was during this moment that Todo rescued Yuji, delivering a life-changing speech about the significance of their actions and how Yuji now carries the determination of everyone he has lost within him. This newfound resolve prevented him from giving up. Later, when Yuji reentered the fight, he teamed up with Todo to dish out one of the most rewarding beatings in the series against Mahito. Even at the end, Todo willingly surrendered his Cursed Power to help Yuji ultimately defeat Mahito once and for all.

Todo’s the perfect partner in crime

Besides being crucial to the storyline and themes, Todo stands out as one of the most powerful sorcerers in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, making him an ideal partner in combat. His unique Cursed Technique, Boogie Woogie, is particularly challenging because it allows him to swap places with anything that possesses Cursed Energy by simply clapping his hands. Although it appears straightforward, Todo’s ingenuity and mastery of the technique create confusion for his adversaries!

In every battle I engaged in, it was clear that even the mighty Sukuna, history’s strongest and most knowledgeable sorcerer regarding Cursed Energy, struggled to match Todo’s extraordinary Boogie Woogie technique mastery. Combined with his naturally superhuman strength, Todo becomes an incredibly elusive adversary to challenge.

Is he swapping with me or Sukuna’s vessel? That split-second decision is making my thoughts falter!

Beyond being gifted and powerful, he is a selfless individual who consistently aims to highlight Yuji’s abilities. Given Boogie Woogie’s characteristics, it functions ideally as a ‘supportive’ Cursed Technique, confounding opponents and working exceptionally well when combined with another sorcerer. This was evident in the seamless teamwork between Todo and Yuji during their battles.

Additionally, it’s clear that Todo is exceptionally cunning. After his significant contribution in helping Yuji vanquish Mahito permanently, it appeared he had lost his capacity to employ his Cursed Technique. However, in an unexpected turn of events, he reappeared against Sukuna with a vibraslap attached to his left arm, enabling him to perform Boogie Woogie at a speed and power never seen before, becoming absolutely crucial in Sukuna’s ultimate defeat and the protection of every other sorcerer from the grasp of Malevolent Shrine. It’s fair to assume that if Todo wasn’t part of the storyline, Jujutsu Kaisen would have concluded much sooner!

Jujutsu Kaisen can be streamed on Amazon Prime and Netflix.
