As a long-time fan of manga and anime, I have to say that the final chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen was a truly emotional rollercoaster. The way Yuji surpassed his sensei Gojo by embodying compassion, kindness, and strength is something that not every character in this genre can achieve.
This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen’s Final Saga.
Key Takeaways
- Yuji has potential to surpass Gojo in sorcery
- Yuji may fulfill his potential as the strongest sorcerer
- Yuji can surpass Gojo as a leader & nurture future generation
From the very start, the main character of “Jujutsu Kaisen”, Yuji Itadori, has been nothing short of unexpected. Just as the series reached its conclusion not long ago, fans were treated to an outstanding display by our protagonist during the climactic battle against Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses. This fight was truly thrilling, and despite the odds, Yuji emerged victorious. As expected, he demonstrated why everyone has faith in him. What’s remarkable is that he achieved this incredible feat without yet reaching his full capacity.
Yuji continues to be one of the most promising young sorcerers for the next generation, destined to achieve great heights in the future. It’s possible that he may even outshine Gojo, but not in the manner fans might anticipate.
Surpassing Gojo As A Sorcerer
- Yuji Has The Potential To Surpass Gojo
- Yuji May Or May Not Fulfil His Potential
The very first thing that fans need to get out of the way is Yuji’s huge potential to surpass Gojo. Clearly, there cannot be a clear answer on whether Yuji can go on to surpass Gojo or not. After all, Gojo was a genius himself and a mighty sorcerer on the same level as Sukuna. The things that Gojo could do with sorcery were, at times, beyond all logic, and for Yuji to utilize sorcery on that level is going to be very difficult, to say the least. Clearly, there is a very big possibility that Yuji will actually never go on to surpass Gojo as a sorcerer. But, that certainly does not mean that the possibility doesn’t exist. Yuji certainly does have the potential to surpass Gojo, and he has the potential to reach a level similar to Sukuna. In fact, Yuji can surpass both Gojo and Sukuna, and there exists a possibility for this scenario as well. But, just because there is potential there doesn’t mean that he’s going to fulfill it.
Does that mean this brat has the same potential as Master Sukuna? – Uraume
Undeniably, I can confidently say that my admiration for Yuji’s potential as the future’s strongest sorcerer is unwavering. To start, his muscle memory from Sukuna’s tenure within him has transformed him into a combat prodigy, mastering techniques in ways that seem almost instinctual. Moreover, his innate power and the unique ability to inflict damage on souls only serve to amplify his might.
Yuji possesses an extraordinary and ominous skill known as Shrine, which is expected to expand in power over time. Moreover, he plans to enhance his Blood Manipulation abilities, even mastering a counter-cursed technique. However, to surpass great figures like Gojo and Sukuna in combat requires further learning and development. Whether or not he’ll reach that level is yet to be determined, but fans can speculate that it’s possible.
Surpassing Gojo As His Student
Yuji Will Definitely Surpass Gojo As A Leader
No matter if Yuji outperforms Gojo as a sorcerer or not, one thing fans can count on is that he has the potential to surpass Gojo as his student. This is suggested in the final chapter of JJK, where Gojo expresses high expectations for him and encourages him to develop a unique strength rather than mimicking his own. While Gojo was formidable in combat, he couldn’t achieve his dream alone. Gojo aspired to create a generation free from the tyranny of corrupt Jujutsu leaders and protect the powerless. Unfortunately, he didn’t live long enough to see this vision realized, but he passed on his hope for the future through Yuji. He also ensured that the generations to come would be guided, just as Gojo intended to guide them in his lifetime.
Seek a different kind of strength than mine. – Gojo
Gojo’s ambition was the foundation for him taking up the role of a teacher, and now Yuji has embarked on that same journey and fulfilled it. Essentially, Gojo’s dream morphed into Yuji’s dream, something he took from his mentor. As Yuji carries on his teacher’s dream and achieves what Gojo couldn’t, he will surpass him.
It’s worth noting that although Gojo and Yuji both aid people, they do so in distinct ways. Gojo assists those who are willing to be helped, which can be seen as beneficial, but Yuji takes it a step further by saving individuals who initially refuse his help. For example, Megumi Fushiguro is one such person whom Yuji rescued despite repeatedly turning down assistance during the Final Saga. Unlike others who might have given up on him, Yuji remained persistent and continued to support him until the very end. In this aspect as well, Yuji surpassed his teacher’s methods.
Attaining A Different Kind Of Strength
Gojo Wanted Yuji To Be Different
It’s clear why Gojo suggested Yuji find a different kind of strength: given all that Yuji possesses, it seems fitting. Gojo was an exceptional fighter, arguably the best in his era and perhaps even of all time. Yet, he had numerous flaws and wasn’t perfect. Similarly, Yuji is not flawless, but he shows a greater degree of empathy and strives to assist those around him. This aspect of Yuji was subtly highlighted once more in the last chapter when he guided another curse user back onto the right path.
Eugie can actually go on to create a just order and see to it that all the needy are always helped. In this regard, he is better than Gojo, and he can utilize his compassion as his strength, which is exactly what Gojo meant by Yuji seeking a different kind of strength. But, of course, to enforce his ideals and his way of thinking, he needs actual power as well, which then goes on to explain why he is as strong as he is. In many ways, Yuji has created the perfect blend of strength and kindness. This is how Yuji surpassed Gojo at the end of JJK and how he made sure that he carried on his sensei’s work with his own two hands.
In the future, fans may have the opportunity to see more of Yuji if there’s a special JJK story or spin-off series. For now, we haven’t seen what Yuji will be like as an adult, but when that happens, fans can only anticipate that he’ll have exceeded Gojo’s expectations.
At long last, the final chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen, numbered as JJK 271, was made available on September 29, 2024. Readers can enjoy this series through the Manga Plus and Shonen Jump applications.
