Intriguingly, I find myself witnessing the unique alliance between the revered horror mangaka, Junji Ito, and a globally acclaimed Kpop group. While such artistic unions aren’t unusual within Japan’s creative landscape, it is indeed rare to observe a collaboration of this kind extending beyond our national borders.
ZB1 is a K-pop boy band that made its debut in 2023. This group was created through the talent show, “Boys Planet,” and is currently managed by WakeOne. They boast millions of followers across their social media platforms and have garnered several awards, among them being the title of “Rookie of the Year” at the Asia Artist Awards 2023.
ZB1 unveils its latest track titled “[Doctor! Doctor!]“, while renowned artist Junji Ito provides the cover art for the digital version.
When Is The Single Out?
The song ‘Doctor! Doctor!’ is not only currently available as a standalone single across various online music platforms, but it’s also part of ZB1’s forthcoming mini-album which will be released on February 24, 2025.
Other Recent Junji Ito Collaborations
It’s likely that Junji Ito is currently the most well-known horror manga artist around. Interestingly enough, he has been participating in some unforeseen collaborations as of late, such as the Tomie x Hello Kitty merchandise series. Additionally, he created artwork for the J-pop group Phantom Siita.
(Alternatively)
Junji Ito is arguably the most renowned horror manga creator at present. To everyone’s surprise, he has recently been involved in collaborative projects, like the Tomie x Hello Kitty merchandise line. Furthermore, he designed artwork for the Jpop group Phantom Siita.
I was thrilled to collaborate with Dead by Daylight! My iconic creations, notably Tomie, found a new home in their game, as a set of skins were introduced based on my works. Interestingly enough, I didn’t create anything exclusively for this collaboration; instead, I granted them the rights to use my characters in their game.
Beyond his popular horror mangas such as Tomie, Souichi, Uzumaki, Remina, and The Junji Ito Collection, Ito has also ventured into creating comedy manga. Surprisingly enjoyable is Junji Ito’s Cat Diary: Yon & Mu, a comical take on his daily life with two cats at home that serves as a satire of his own life.
Yon & Mu. The parody aspect of the cat diary and its connection to Ito’s personal life with cats is emphasized, along with the unexpected fun aspect of reading it.
It seems that the majority of anime adaptations, such as “Junji Ito Collection,” “Junji Ito Maniac” and “Uzumaki,” which are based on Junji Ito’s works, have not met the expectations of his story fans. These adaptations have received mixed or negative feedback from both critics and the public.
The animated version of the Junji Ito Collection can be streamed on Crunchyroll. You can find Junji Ito’s Mania on Netflix, and Uzumaki is accessible for streaming on MAX.
