Jurassic World: Rebirth Can Stay True to Its Name With a One-Two Punch

Jurassic World: Rebirth Can Stay True to Its Name With a One-Two Punch

As a gamer who grew up in the 90s, my heart skips a beat every time I hear news about Jurassic Park. The original film was not just a movie for me; it was an experience that ignited my passion for both cinema and gaming. So, hearing about the upcoming release of Jurassic World: Rebirth fills me with a mix of nostalgia and anticipation.

1993’s Jurassic Park will forever be celebrated as a cinematic marvel, pioneering visual effects and delivering an outstanding screen adaptation of Michael Crichton’s novel. However, the future of the Jurassic Park franchise has been debated. While its sequels and the Jurassic World series garnered fanbases, they received mixed reviews overall. Despite some believing that 2022’s Jurassic World: Dominion marked the end of the franchise, it appears this prediction was incorrect as Jurassic World: Rebirth is scheduled for release next year.

Three years following “Dominion,” “Jurassic World: Resurgence” finds Scarlett Johansson’s character Zora Bennett spearheading a clandestine squad to procure DNA samples from three of Earth’s last surviving dinosaurs. The initial synopsis suggests that “Jurassic World: Resurgence” could indeed fulfill its promise and rejuvenate the struggling series, while also sparking a resurgence in its video game division.

Jurassic World: Rebirth Can Rejuvenate the Franchise With a Video Game Tie-In

It’s Been a While Since Jurassic World Had a Good Video Game

The video game adaptations of the Jurassic Park/World series have had a trajectory quite similar to its film counterparts. In the initial phase, we saw some stellar games like Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis and action titles on SEGA and Nintendo systems. However, after the conclusion of the original trilogy, the franchise experienced a significant drought in game releases.

In 2015, the film release of “Jurassic World” sparked renewed interest in the franchise’s video game sector. The games “Jurassic World: Evolution“, its sequel from 2021, and “LEGO Jurassic World” provided exceptional dinosaur park building experiences. Meanwhile, “Jurassic World: Aftermath” offered a thrilling VR horror adventure, and “Jurassic World: Aftermath” was another strong addition to the LEGO series based on this franchise.

Four years have passed since the last Jurassic Park/World game hit the shelves, and it seems like a good moment for something new to emerge. The upcoming release of Jurassic World: Rebirth next year could just be the right occasion for that.

A Jurassic World: Rebirth Video Game Wouldn’t Need to be a Direct Tie-In

As an ardent fan, I can’t help but reminisce about the glory days of movie tie-in games like “The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King” and “Spider-Man 2.” However, it appears that era has faded into history. Yet, many franchises still strategically time their video game releases to synchronize with a related movie or TV show, leveraging fans’ fervor for the brand at its peak. Universal, in my humble opinion, should seize this opportunity with “Jurassic World: Rebirth.” By releasing a game simultaneously, they could create a formidable one-two punch that would undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on us dedicated fans.

Last year at The Game Awards, Saber Interactive unveiled “Jurassic Park: Survival”, an action game with a stealth element, positioned in the first-person perspective, set immediately after the original 1993 film’s events. As a character trapped within InGen, players must navigate Isla Nublar while evading the menacing jaws of famous dinosaurs. At this time, no official launch date has been set. It would be exciting to see “Jurassic Park: Survival” debut alongside “Jurassic World: Rebirth”. If both ventures receive positive feedback, they could revitalize the franchise and possibly make it more powerful than ever before.
