As a longtime fan of the Jurassic Park franchise and having witnessed the evolution of this series since its inception, I must say that the prospect of Jurassic World: Rebirth has me both excited and cautiously optimistic. If the production team manages to address and rectify the shortcomings of the previous installments, it has the potential to become the best sequel yet in the entire franchise.

Filming is currently being conducted for “Jurassic World: Rebirth,” scheduled to premiere in summer 2025. This comes surprisingly soon after the conclusion of the Jurassic World trilogy in 2022, as there were initial plans to pause the franchise. However, the impressive performance of “Jurassic World: Dominion” has prompted the production of another sequel. It seems that this new installment may return to the series’ origins, mirroring some aspects of Steven Spielberg’s 1997 sequel, “The Lost World: Jurassic Park.” While that movie wasn’t flawless, it contained several elements that resonated with fans of the franchise.

In a fresh twist while honoring its roots, the Jurassic World trilogy ventured into uncharted territory, and this was clearly seen in the latest installment, Jurassic World: Dominion, as iconic characters from the past, such as Dr. Alan Grant (Sam Neill), Dr. Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) made their return. It was surprising when another sequel was announced, given that it was believed the series would take a break. However, much like nature, it persists, and dinosaurs will once again grace our movie screens in the summer of 2025. The plot summary for the forthcoming sequel bears a striking resemblance to Steven Spielberg’s first Jurassic Park sequel, The Lost World.

5 years following the occurrences depicted in “Jurassic World Dominion”, it’s clear that Earth’s ecosystem is unfriendly towards dinosaurs, with those few survivors living in secluded equatorial areas similar to their original habitats. The three largest creatures inhabiting this tropical ecosystem possess the genetic makeup for a drug that could offer extraordinary lifesaving advantages to humans. In this story, Scarlett Johansson portrays Zora Bennett, an expert in covert operations who is hired to assemble a team for a classified mission to retrieve genetic samples from the world’s three largest dinosaurs. When Zora’s operation collides with a family whose boat trip was disrupted by aggressive marine dinosaurs, they all end up stranded on an island, where they encounter a startling, long-hidden secret about the planet that has been concealed for decades.

Scarlett Johansson’s character Zora Bennett seems to resemble Julianne Moore’s character Sarah Harding from The Lost World in terms of leading a group of experts, seeking crucial dinosaur data on an island, only to find themselves stranded. Notably, both stories are penned by David Koepp, the screenwriter behind the original Jurassic Park and its sequel, The Lost World.

In a new development for the Jurassic World series, Michael Crichton (Koepp is a pseudonym for him) will return to the franchise for the first time since 1997’s original film, potentially playing a crucial role in the success of the upcoming installment, Jurassic World: Rebirth. This latest film could draw inspiration from The Lost World, which, although it was the strongest sequel to the original Jurassic Park, did have its flaws. If Jurassic World: Rebirth manages to address these shortcomings, it has the potential to surpass all previous sequels in the franchise.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park’s Worldwide Gross

In one of his most significant undertakings, Steven Spielberg undertook the challenge of creating a follow-up to his blockbuster film, Jurassic Park. Although 1997’s The Lost World was not flawless and couldn’t quite match the brilliance of the first dinosaur adventure, it still represents an honorable sequel, capturing many of the aspects that made the original a timeless classic. Notably, Dr. Alan Grant (played by Sam Neill) did not reappear in the sequel, but his absence was compensated by the return of Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcolm, who stepped into the leading role.

Goldblum delivers an outstanding performance, and the movie also introduces some fantastic side actors such as Julianne Moore portraying Sarah Harding and Vince Vaughn in his debut major role. The film boasts several thrilling action scenes, with the T-Rex’s chaotic rampage through San Diego remaining a joy to behold. If Jurassic World: Rebirth is as impressive as The Lost World, it’s certain to be well-received by audiences.
