Summary
- World of Warcraft’s Kalimdor Cup event has returned with 16 courses to race through and earn rewards.
- There are no new transmogs or titles this time around.
- Future old world Skyriding events will be coming to WoW, with more races and events to look forward to.
The epic game known as World of Warcraft is now embarking on the second round of its Kalimdor Cup competition – the initial sky-riding event from the old world. From today until March 10th, enthusiasts playing World of Warcraft can take up the task to conquer sixteen tracks scattered across Kalimdor in their Normal, Advanced, and Reverse forms. The victors will be rewarded with transmogrifications, Drakewatcher Manuscripts, and other prizes.
The inaugural Kalimdor Cup competition, one of the earliest Sky-racing events in the Old World, was held within the virtual realm of World of Warcraft back in August 2023. Participants who successfully finished races were able to acquire Riders of Azeroth Badges as rewards, which could be later traded for various cosmetic items.
The Kalimdor Cup tournament has been reinstated for another round, running over the next fortnight. Throughout Kalimdor, you’ll find 16 Skyriding courses, with three variations for each course – Normal, Advanced, and Reverse. Players as low as level 30 can participate in these races, which can be initiated from Bronze Timekeepers positioned around the world. Alternatively, a quest provided by Lord Andestrasz at Valdrakken’s Rostrum of Transformation will offer an introduction to the event and grant extra Riders of Azeroth Badges for each character you play.
World of Warcraft Kalimdor Cup Event Rewards
- Windborne Velocidrake: Teal Scales – 50 Riders of Azeroth Badges
- Winding Slitherdrake: Curved Nose Horn – 25 Riders of Azeroth Badges
- Winding Slitherdrake: Blonde Hair – 25 Riders of Azeroth Badges
- Drake Racer’s transmog set – 145 Riders of Azeroth Badges (20 x7 main pieces, 5 for scarf)
- Kalimdor Racer title – Obtain gold in all races in Kalimdor
- Nine Kalimdor Racing Completionist achievements
During the current Kalimdor Cup, no fresh transmogrifications, achievements, or titles are being offered. Those who have already acquired everything in a previous run can afford to miss this event, unless they just want to re-run the tracks for amusement. However, future Skyriding races in the old world may award more Riders of Azeroth badges from the initial quest, so it’s plausible that World of Warcraft might modify the Kalimdor Cup based on this pattern. Players will learn for certain once the servers are back online following maintenance for Patch 11.1.

In the upcoming periods, the classic Skyrunning competitions are set to resurface within the realm of World of Warcraft too. The Eastern Kingdoms Cup is slated for August 26, followed by the Outland Cup on February 24, 2026, and the Northrend Cup on August 25, 2026. This implies that these events will recur every six months, without end, within World of Warcraft. It’s unclear at this point if they will also introduce other Skyrunning races to other ancient zones such as Pandaria, the Broken Isles, or Draenor in the future.
Regrettably, the Kalimdor Cup may face tough challenges from other World of Warcraft content in the upcoming fortnight. Simultaneously with the tournament’s start, World of Warcraft Patch 11.1 was rolled out, marking the beginning of Season 2 on March 4, during the second week of the event. Here’s hoping players who couldn’t participate in the initial Kalimdor Cup can find a momentary break from Undermine to experience this event, as it probably won’t be back for another couple of years at least.
