Kamen Rider's Fuuto Pi Anime Shares New Visual

As a seasoned gamer and a die-hard fan of the Kamen Rider series, I must say that the FUUTO PI: Kamen Rider Skull no Shōzō movie has truly revitalized my love for this iconic franchise. Having grown up watching the original 2009 Kamen Rider W series and being captivated by its unique storyline, I was thrilled to learn that there’s a new installment in the form of FUUTO PI.

The “FUUTO PI: Kamen Rider Skull’s Origin” movie is currently playing in theaters nationwide across Japan. “FUUTO PI” is a manga spinoff of “Kamen Rider W,” which was co-created by artist Masaki Sato and scriptwriter Riku Sanjo, also known for his work on “Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai.

The story takes place after the movie Kamen Rider W Returns (but newcomers can read it without watching the movie or the Kamen Rider W series). Private detective Shotaro Hidari is back, working at Narumi Detective Agency with Raito Sonozaki (“Philip”), the only Sonozaki family survivor able to access the Gaia Library. T

Together, they transform into Kamen Rider W, a reference to “double” in this context. Their fresh journey commences when they encounter Tokime, a girl who has lost her memories and is being pursued by Dopants. They decide to help her uncover her past while she assists them. The movie will be screened in Japan starting from November 8, 2024, and serves as a sequel to the anime. The new visual features Kamen Rider Double CycloneSkull, which is also available as an S.H.Figuarts figure.

In 2022, the animated series “FUUTO PI” aired, over a decade after “Kamen Rider W” (2009-2010). This production was handled by Studio Kai, with Yousuke Kabashima as director and Tatsuto Higuchi penning the script. All 12 episodes are available on Crunchyroll with English subtitles. At present, there’s no confirmation for an international release, but it may become accessible on Crunchyroll or another platform in the future.

The manga titled “FUUTO PI” continues its run. It began being serialized in 2017 and up to now, there have been 17 collected editions. To date, it hasn’t seen publication in the United States.

The Original Kamen Rider W Story

2009 marked the debut of Kamen Rider W, which aired as part of Toei’s Super Hero Time on TV Asahi, similar to other Kamen Rider series. This series was created to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Heisei Era Kamen Rider franchise. Subsequently, it was confirmed that this series is set within the same continuity as the original 1971 Kamen Rider show.

In the animated series “FUUTO PI,” set in the eco-friendly city of Fuuto (or “Wind City”), tranquility is threatened when the Sonozaki Family begins peddling Gaia Memories to criminals, who transform into Dopants using these devices, becoming invincible during their criminal activities. However, this transformation leads them towards insanity, causing them to enter a frenzied state. Detective Shotaro Hidari and his associate Philip take up the task of investigating these crimes, eventually assuming the role of Kamen Rider W. You can watch “FUUTO PI” on Crunchyroll, while the original “Kamen Rider W” series remains unlicensed in the United States.
