Enthusiasts of the video game series, The Sims, are quite familiar with Simlish, the language spoken by the characters within the game world. Not only do in-game characters converse in it, but the franchise has also released numerous songs over time, re-recorded by their respective artists, with the lyrics translated into Simlish. Artists like Katy Perry, My Chemical Romance, Depeche Mode, The Flaming Lips, and Yoasobi are some of the many musicians who have contributed to this unique musical endeavor.

At one of Katy Perry’s concert stops, a request came for her to sing the Simlish version of her song “Last Friday Night”. The lyrics were written out on a piece of paper. At first, Perry seemed uncertain, saying “I really shouldn’t do this”, but she eventually agreed to perform the chorus. With some initial worries about reading the text, she managed well and the crowd encouraged her as she sang. After finishing, she playfully apologized to the audience, saying “you had to be there.

To promote this Stuff Pack, Electronic Arts (EA) released a video of Katy Perry recording the song in Simlish, a fictional language used in The Sims games. This video became quite popular online, eventually racking up over 3 million views on YouTube.
13 years have passed since Katy Perry first recorded the song, so it’s quite remarkable that she managed to perform it as she did back then.
