Actor Keanu Reeves has openly expressed interest in reprising the character Johnny Silverhand for the potential sequel to the game “Cyberpunk 2077”. Renowned for his film roles such as Neo from “The Matrix”, John Wick in the “John Wick” series, and John Constantine in “Constantine”, Keanu Reeves entered the gaming world with his portrayal of Johnny Silverhand in “Cyberpunk 2077” back in 2020.
Initially, when Cyberpunk 2077 was unveiled by CD Projekt Red in 2013, it generated immense excitement due to their successful Witcher series. However, upon its release in 2020, it faced numerous issues, leading to a disastrous launch that even resulted in its removal from the PlayStation Store due to performance problems on PS4. Despite these initial setbacks, CD Projekt Red persisted in addressing the issues and continually released updates. Now, their efforts have led to Cyberpunk 2077 being recognized as some of their best work to date.
Keanu Reeves Is Open to Reprising His Role as Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2
Following years of dedicated effort, the game Cyberpunk 2077 has reached a substantially enhanced state, enabling CD Projekt Red to proceed with plans for a sequel tentatively named Cyberpunk 2. As of now, specifics about this project are being closely guarded, leaving uncertainty regarding which characters from the first game may appear in its sequel. Nevertheless, Johnny Silverhand’s portrayer, Keanu Reeves, has expressed his desire to reprise his role as Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2, stating, “Absolutely. I’d love to play Johnny Silverhand again.”

If Keanu Reeves were to reprise his role, it might be a while before fans hear any official announcement about it. At the moment, CD Projekt Red seems primarily focused on The Witcher 4, with 444 developers working on it and 116 on Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel. Neither game has a confirmed release date yet, but The Witcher 4 is projected to launch around 2026 or 2027, suggesting that Cyberpunk 2 might come out closer to 2030 (but remember this is only an informed prediction).

Though specifics about the eagerly awaited follow-up aren’t abundant yet, it has been suggested that Cyberpunk 2 will part ways with the renowned Night City. Earlier this year, Mike Pondsmith, creator of the tabletop RPG that inspired Cyberpunk 2077, hinted that players would explore a different city in the sequel, implying that Night City may no longer be the backdrop. Although Pondsmith played a significant role in the original Cyberpunk 2077, he has admitted to less involvement in the sequel but does occasionally check in with CD Projekt Red to keep tabs on the development of Cyberpunk 2.
