In the “Boundaries of Antiquity” side mission within the game “Avowed”, your task is to locate a missing group of dwarves in the Slumbering Fields. They are being held captive by a Delemgan named Weeping Willow, who insists on releasing them only if you solve the mystery of the poison contaminating the local streams. There are several paths you can take, and the outcomes may not be evident right away. If you opt to confront Weeping Willow physically, you’ll earn one of “Avowed’s” distinctive accessories, the Mortal Haven amulet.
In this scenario, both the Weeping Willow and Raluka, head of the Dwarven exploration party, share a common goal: obtaining clean water. As you progress through this quest, you’ll be making decisions that will ultimately shape the destiny of the Dwarves, Solace Keep, and the Weeping Willow. Crucial steps include locating and neutralizing the poison in the water supply, as well as clearing any obstructions from the aqueduct. To purify the water, you’ll need to track down its origin; an artifact that is under the guardianship of Avowed’s deity, Woedica herself.
What Happens If You Kill The Weeping Willow Delemgan
Weeping Willow Drops The Mortal Haven Unique Amulet
If you choose to resort to violence upon encountering Weeping Willow for the first time in Slumbering Fields, you can take her life. Consequently, the dwarven crew will be liberated, and Raluka will task you with purifying the water and unclogging the aqueduct so they can have access to clean water at Solace. As you delve deeper into the ancient ruins, you’ll eventually discover the source of the poison – the Goddess Woedica. No matter what words you use, you will destroy the artifact in the process and rid the water of its poison.
If you cannot reach a deal with Raluka, you’ll also be given the choice to eliminate the Weeping Willow tree afterwards. The Weeping Willow views dwarves as an “invasive species,” but she can be reasoned with. However, the only way to obtain the Mortal Haven amulet is by killing her. This amulet triggers Arcane Veil every 20 seconds when your health falls below 25%. No matter when you decide to eliminate Weeping Willow, you’ll need to clear the aqueduct and make your way back to Raluka to finish the quest. Doing so will provide Solace Keep with fresh water and rid the area of poison simultaneously.
What Happens If You Help Weeping Willow
Raluka & Weeping Willow Can Play Nice If You Convince Them To
If you choose to aid Weeping Willow, you’ll explore the ruins regardless, locating and vanquishing Woedica in the process. You’ll also learn about Sapadal’s sinister plans. Once Woedica is defeated, you can confidently swim in the water and then return to both Weeping Willow and Raluka to negotiate a truce concerning the crew’s position at the aqueduct. Weeping Willow will urge Raluka and the dwarves to move downstream after the aqueduct is cleaned, but this can be altered with a sufficiently high Perception (12) or through dialogue specific to the Vanguard Scout.
If you choose to side with Weeping Willow and propose that dwarves should leave, Raluka will approach you privately to request your assistance in eliminating Delemgan. No matter what action you take, you’ll need to clear the aqueduct first before finishing the quest. You have the option of sending Raluka and the dwarves downstream or allowing them to remain and coexist peacefully. Regardless of whether you spare Weeping Willow or eliminate her, the experience points earned from the encounter will be the same.
You Should Help Weeping Willow & Raluka In Avowed
Sparing Weeping Willow Is The Best Option Unless You Need The Amulet
If your character’s setup in Avowed doesn’t particularly gain from the Mortal Haven amulet, there’s no compelling reason to slay the Weeping Willow, despite considering the dwarves’ abduction as somewhat excessive. Essentially, the prizes remain identical, and the Weeping Willow’s demise offers no extra advantages beyond the amulet, which is advantageous only for a select few build types. From a storytelling point of view, you can find solutions that satisfy both parties, as they can coexist peacefully now that the aqueduct has been cleared or even negotiate with the dwarves moving further downstream.
In the vicinity, there are various perks up for grabs, whether you choose to let the Weeping Willow live or not. Interestingly, the experience points you earn remain constant, regardless of your decision. So, it’s more about strategy than missing out on something crucial in the game named Avowed. If the Mortal Haven amulet isn’t a must-have for you, consider sparing yourself an extra battle. There are several dialogue options tied to character attributes along the way, but only your decision regarding Weeping Willow significantly affects outcomes. Therefore, it would be wiser to spare Weeping Willow and find a peaceful resolution that benefits both her and Raluka.
