Instead of diving deep into the numerous systems and mechanics that make up Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, I’d prefer to share my personal experience playing it, as well as the atmosphere and scale of this RPG. From the moment you set foot in its breathtaking world to mastering various trades and engaging in combat, this game has the promise to be one of the most significant and impressive RPGs of our time. I can’t help but wish for more time exploring it further.
Stepping into Medieval Europe at the dawn of the 15th century is an immersive, heart-pounding journey. The meticulously crafted landscapes – lush forests carpeted with vibrant flora under the intense gaze of a radiant sun – leave me awestruck. Every blade of grass, every leaf rustling in the wind seems to pulse with life. Deer, boars, cows, and horses roam freely, offering a sense of tranquility, but veering from the well-trodden paths can lead to encounters with packs of wolves or dogs that could tear me apart if I’m not vigilant. The threat is constant, and unless I’m well-prepared, danger lurks just around the corner.
In the realm of conflict, there’s a resonance with tales told. Engaging in battle isn’t something light, it’s an endeavor not to be underestimated. Each clash demands strategic strikes and a thoughtfully designed defense if you wish to emerge victorious. When multiple adversaries confront you, the challenge intensifies significantly. Each swing of your sword can come from above, left or right, or even below. Your foe may counter, but a timely strike or combination could tip the scales between triumph and defeat. They’ll attack relentlessly, but if you successfully deflect, a swift counterattack will catch them off guard, providing a fleeting moment of relief.
In Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, you’re always on edge due to the possibility of a duel if you make even the slightest mistake in your actions or words. The game values intelligence in combat, dialogue, and quest resolution. Despite being ten hours into the game, I haven’t progressed much because I’m so engrossed in Henry of Skalitz’s life that I want to explore everything, carve my own path, and advance when I feel ready, rather than rushing through the story.
As I journey through this captivating world, I’ve found myself immersed in a myriad of engaging side quests that span the entire first region. The NPCs I’ve encountered are nothing short of remarkable, each one unique and authentic, unlike any other. I find myself drawn to the local taverns, where I often sit back, relax, and eavesdrop on the lively conversations sparked by a few tankards of ale. Street altercations, spontaneous brawls near taverns, farmers laboring in the fields, horse-riders passing by with a friendly nod – these are just some of the vivid scenes I’ve witnessed.
Roaming bandits lurk on the outskirts of civilization along the country roads, while even my travels are not without incident. Random encounters can lead to altercations, adding an extra layer of excitement to my adventures. Each moment in this realm feels alive and unpredictable, keeping me hooked and eager for more.
In the next major adventure post the introductory part, you’ll find yourself striving to attend a significant gathering. I must admit, I was taken aback by how much time it required to reach this point. However, this isn’t a criticism but rather a testament to the richness and complexity of the optional quests that fill your journey with engaging content, giving you glimpses into the various aspects of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2.
Visiting the blacksmith initiates a mission to recover a misplaced cart loaded with supplies, but it also introduces you to the art of crafting your own weapons and metal items. The miller presents you with a quest to find resources at gravesites for creating a golem, all while teaching you stealth techniques, pickpocketing, and lockpicking skills.
Your gameplay feels incredibly organic, without a hint of a repetitive fetch mission in sight. Even when tasks require you to venture elsewhere or gather items, they’re presented in such a way that each one feels fresh and distinct from the last. In this role as Henry, you balance the necessities of life like eating to avoid hunger yet not overindulging to feel unwell, ensuring rest at reasonable hours to prevent exhaustion, maintaining cleanliness to be socially acceptable, and so on. The game offers a variety of merchants to trade with, locations for blade sharpening and herb drying, taverns for lodging and socializing, stables for purchasing horses and equipment, all adding layers of depth that make the experience truly immersive.
At the moment, I’m deeply engrossed in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Despite some issues with its save system and an at times overwhelming survival aspect, I’m utterly captivated by the game’s immersive world and characters. I can’t reveal much about the story, but I’m thoroughly enjoying my experience so far, and I’m excited to see more as I progress through the game. The challenges it presents are tough, but they offer exciting opportunities to conquer them and push forward. Combat is tactical and rigorous, yet immensely rewarding when your strategies pay off, and exploring this expansive open world promises an engaging experience for 2025 and beyond.
Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is coming to PC, Xbox Series S|X, and PS5 on February 4th.
