The creators of the upcoming game Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Warhorse Studios, are rumored to be developing a new video game set in the world of Lord of the Rings.
Man, 2025 was an amazing year for gaming thanks to Warhorse, a studio out of the Czech Republic. They didn’t just release a good game, they dropped what I think is easily one of the best RPGs ever made. Seriously, it’s a masterpiece.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 quickly became a beloved game after it launched, thanks to its incredibly detailed gameplay and captivating story. It’s already sold over five million copies, which is much more than developers anticipated.
What’s next for the developers? There are rumors suggesting they might be working on a new version of the incredibly popular Lord of the Rings story, but nothing is confirmed yet.
New Lord of the Rings game allegedly in the works by Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 devs
Back in 2025, Insider Gaming was the first to reveal that a new Lord of the Rings game was being created. The project isn’t a small undertaking, as it’s receiving a significant $100 million investment from the Abu Dhabi Investment Office.
The game was an open-world action adventure played from a third-person perspective. While it was in development, the team responsible wasn’t publicly known, although reports indicated they were part of the Embracer Group.
So, I was checking out some gaming news and saw this interesting tidbit. Apparently, Ryszard Chojnowski, who used to be a lead on The Witcher games, was on a Polish podcast. Insider Gaming picked up on it, and from what I understand, he’s given us the first real hint about what the developers are planning for the new Middle-earth game! It’s cool to finally get some idea of what they’re thinking.
Chojnowski says that Warhorse Studios is the team behind the upcoming Lord of the Rings game. He was initially skeptical when he first heard the news, but with increasing reports and rumors, he now believes the claims are likely true.
Okay, so this is just my take on things right now, and I could totally be wrong! Things can always shift and change, and maybe the person who told me this, Chojnowski, didn’t have all the facts. Just putting it out there as a possibility!
If these reports are accurate, fans of The Lord of the Rings might be getting a high-quality, large-scale adventure game – something the series hasn’t had since the release of Middle-earth: Shadow of War in 2017.
