Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was likely overlooked during the 2025 award season, mainly because it was up against the incredibly strong competition of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which proved unbeatable in most categories.

I’m a huge fan of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, and it’s amazing to see how many other dedicated fans are out there! It’s not just about playing the game, either – people are really connecting with the story and creating all sorts of awesome fan content, especially fanfiction. In fact, it was one of the most popular things on Archive of Our Own last year, which is incredible!

Recent analyses of fanfiction trends on Archive of Our Own (AO3) show that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was a popular topic last year, ranking within the top 100 categories. Notably, the most popular pairing within the game’s fandom was the relationship between Henry and Hans, consistently appearing in the top 100 as well.

AO3 user centreoftheselights created a ranking that shows Hans/Henry as the 41st most popular fanfiction pairing in 2025.

There are a few problems with this approach. For example, the list implies that stories featuring Hans and Henry didn’t exist before 2025, which isn’t true. Fans were actually writing stories about them from the very beginning, although most of these stories appeared after the second game came out.

A different ranking, created by a Reddit user named Agamar13, places the Hans/Henry pairing at number 75 – right below fanfiction about the band One Direction. It’s strange even writing that!

It’s interesting that the feature which initially caused the most debate for Kingdom Come: Deliverance – a gay romance option – is now a key reason players continue to enjoy the game. At launch, the developers had to address criticism surrounding this inclusion, but it seems most players were either accepting of it or excited about the possibility of a romance with Hans.
