Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix – Secret Ending Guide

Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix - Secret Ending Guide

As a devoted fan of the Kingdom Hearts series, I can’t help but be in awe of the intricacies and depth that Square Enix put into the Final Mix editions of Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2. The secret endings, in particular, hold a special place in my heart, offering tantalizing glimpses into the rich lore and backstory of this magical world.

In the releases of the enhanced editions called “Final Mix” for both “Kingdom Hearts 1” and “Kingdom Hearts 2,” new secret endings were included. Players could access these alternative endings, but the conditions to unlock them depended on the level of difficulty chosen during gameplay.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve tackled many challenges in my time, but Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix took things to a whole new level. Unlocking the elusive secret ending is no small feat. If you’re intrigued and prefer experiencing it firsthand instead of relying on YouTube videos, here’s how to unlock that hidden ending for Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix.

This guide contains spoilers so proceed with caution.

How to Unlock The Gathering

Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix - Secret Ending Guide

In the hidden finale of Kingdom Hearts 2, previously known as The Gathering, players can access it simply by completing the game. Regardless of the level of challenge, or whether you’ve finished every task, this ending will unfold once the credits have ended and the following scene has played out. Afterward, you’ll be given a chance to save your progress. It is advisable to do so, as saving is essential for unlocking further post-credits content necessary for the second secret finale.

How to Unlock Birth By Sleep

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I can tell you that the “Birth By Sleep” secret ending in Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix is quite the challenge. Unlike the prequel game with the same name, this ending is not easily accessible.

Beginner Mode

  • Cannot be unlocked

Standard Mode

  • Complete Jiminy’s Journal, get an S rank on every single on all Gummi Ship missions, along with finding every single treasure. You also need to obtain all three Proofs from endgame content.

Proud Mode

  • Complete Jiminy’s Journal. You also need to obtain all three Proofs from endgame content.

Critical Mode

  • Obtain all three Proofs from endgame content.

As a gamer, I can tell you that playing on an easier difficulty level doesn’t make things simpler; instead, it means more work is required from you. To unlock Jiminy’s Journal’s secret ending on Standard Mode, you need to find every hidden chest, collect all puzzle pieces, finish every mini-game task, and fill out each journal entry to the last page. Adding to that, completing Gummi Ship missions is a must. So, be prepared for a substantial time commitment (not forgetting patience) to unveil the secret ending on Standard Mode. On Proud Mode, though, you can skip the Gummi Ship missions and still unlock the secret ending, but it will take longer.

To access the hidden finale, playing in Critical Mode significantly simplifies the process. However, this comes with a challenge: you must triumph over the game’s toughest difficulties. You’ll need to defeat the Lingering Will and every Organization XIII Replica Data boss that stands in your way. Additionally, you must have successfully completed all Mushroom XIII challenges before reaching this point.

If you’ve met the requirements for your preferred level of challenge, you’ll need to defeat the final boss one last time. Following the end credits, the regular secret ending will play out as usual. However, after that concludes, you’ll be treated to the newly unlocked secret ending once The Gathering has finished.
