The Star Wars series offers numerous video game franchises an opportunity for cross-promotion, as the intellectual property’s enduring popularity continues to thrive. Incorporating Star Wars elements into a video game can effectively generate excitement about the title. This strategy was recently employed in Destiny 2, which plans to introduce new armor and cosmetic items inspired by the renowned franchise.
It’s undeniable that Star Wars-themed gaming content remains popular, whether through exclusive Star Wars games or collaborations with other titles. Consequently, gamers can expect to see more characters, outfits, and accessories in video games going forward. Among these games, one stands out as an ideal candidate for incorporating Star Wars elements, and it’s crucial that its developers prioritize this addition.
Destiny 2 Shouldn’t Be The Only Franchise With Star Wars Content
Kingdom Hearts Has Been Waiting For Star Wars To Appear
The idea of incorporating elements from the Star Wars universe into Kingdom Hearts 4 seems organic when the game is fully developed. Given that Kingdom Hearts has a history of blending the Final Fantasy realm with Disney properties, and since Disney acquired Star Wars in 2012, it appears as though Square Enix’s franchise has been anticipating a Star Wars integration for quite some time. With the potential arrival of a Star Wars appearance in Kingdom Hearts 4, this collaboration could be realized at last.
Since Disney purchased Lucasfilm and the Star Wars franchise in 2012, and later acquired Marvel Entertainment in 2009, it’s worth noting that neither property was represented in “Kingdom Hearts 3” upon its release. The series director, Tetsuya Nomura, mentioned that legal agreements were the reason behind the absence of Star Wars content from the previous game. Similarly, due to contract issues, Marvel-related content (except for Disney’s “Big Hero 6,” which is a loose adaptation of a Marvel comic) was not included in the game as well.
Star Wars Is More Than Expansive Enough For Kingdom Hearts
As long as Square Enix can avoid the same contractual complications seen in Kingdom Hearts 4, incorporating Star Wars content seems like an obvious choice. With the Star Wars universe offering such a broad range of possibilities, Square Enix would have ample opportunities to explore various elements from the films. Since Sora currently fights with a weapon resembling a sword (the Keyblade), it’s not hard to imagine him using a lightsaber in future Kingdom Hearts installments.
Additionally, it’s worth noting that since Star Wars is set in space, Kingdom Hearts shares a similarity with its occasional space-themed moments. For instance, Sora navigates his Gummi Ship through the cosmos, visiting various destinations. These sequences bear a resemblance to space battles in Star Wars, and a future game could amplify these segments to match the grandeur of Lucasfilm’s iconic space battles.
In the sprawling Star Wars galaxy, there’s just no end to the creative possibilities for a game developer like me. There’s plenty of space to explore various elements from the movies and craft engaging experiences!
Kingdom Hearts 4 May Already Be Hinting At Star Wars
As a fervent fan of Kingdom Hearts, I’ve been eagerly speculating that the next installment might feature Star Wars elements, given the subtle hints dropped in the Kingdom Hearts 4 reveal trailer. A scene in the trailer strongly reminded me of the forest moon of Endor, and for a fleeting instant, there was what seemed to be an AT-ST Walker in one frame. It’s not definitive whether it was indeed Endor or an AT-ST, but these brief moments in the trailer certainly spark curiosity among us who yearn for some Star Wars integration into our beloved Kingdom Hearts universe.
As a devoted fan, I’ve been eagerly waiting for any hint about Kingdom Hearts 4. It’s still uncertain if the recent teases point towards the Star Wars universe being part of the new game, given its long production timeline. Yet, the richness and expansiveness of the Star Wars universe makes it seem like a perfect fit for the next installment in Square Enix’s crossover series. Here’s hoping that Lucasfilm’s legendary series will be the next to join the Kingdom Hearts universe!
