It has just been announced that Death Stranding 2 is set for global release on June 26th. In conjunction with this announcement, Hideo Kojima and his team at Kojima Productions have unveiled a fresh trailer to give us a glimpse into the ambitious (yet somewhat perplexing) sequel to the 2019 blockbuster that sold nearly 20 million copies. This trailer, filled with high-quality cinematic elements, clocks in at an impressive length of 10 minutes.
In the preview, there’s a glimpse of Neil, a character portrayed by Luca Marinelli who exudes an air of mystery. If his character’s unveiling reminds you of Solid Snake, it’s likely intentional as the similarity is quite deliberate.
Solid Stranding
2020 saw Hideo Kojima point out Luca Marinelli as someone who had caught his attention. He commented that if Marinelli donned a bandana, he would be an exact likeness of Solid Snake. Interestingly, in the recent Death Stranding 2 trailer, Marinelli is seen sporting a bandana.
In the trailer for Death Stranding 2, Luca Marinelli’s appearance might seem like it came from a Metal Gear remake, but the resemblance to the franchise that significantly shaped Kojima over two decades isn’t limited to just that.
Later in the preview, we catch our initial glimpse of ‘Magellan Man’, a massive mechanical figure that might serve as a new version of a Metal Gear weapon.
In the Death Stranding 2 preview, we don’t get to explore much about Luca’s persona, but whatever glimpses we catch are enticing enough to fuel our excitement even more. This upcoming game is one of the most eagerly awaited titles slated for 2025, and it looks set to deliver a visually stunning experience.
Alongside the creation of Death Stranding 2, Hideo Kojima is collaborating with A24 on a Death Stranding film project, adding yet another venture to his already bustling work with OD and Physint.
