Note of Caution: This write-up may include minor hints about Death Stranding 3. Renowned video game creator Hideo Kojima has disclosed that he has a concept for another installment in the Death Stranding series. The announcement arrives as Kojima Productions prepares to debut its second title, titled “Death Stranding 2: On the Shore.
In continuation of the 2019 blockbuster, “Death Stranding 2” is slated for release on June 24. Although the narrative details of Hideo Kojima’s forthcoming action-adventure game remain unclear, it is set eleven months after the occurrences in “Death Stranding”. Players will resume their role as Sam Bridges, now settled in Mexico with his ‘bridge-baby’, Lou. As we approach the game’s release date in less than a month, Kojima has been discussing the future of the “Death Stranding” franchise beyond “Death Stranding 2”.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the future of the Death Stranding franchise, even though we haven’t seen the second installment yet. In a recent Q&A, the legendary Hideo Kojima shared his vision for a potential Death Stranding 3. He mentioned that the new Plate Gate mechanic in Death Stranding 2 could be a game-changer, opening up the franchise for sequels.
In Death Stranding 2, these Plate Gates will connect North America to Australia, making it possible to zip across continents at lightning speed. It seems that Kojima’s imagination has been sparked by this new mechanic, as he told VGC, “If I incorporate this Plate Gate concept, I could create an endless series of sequels!
Kojima Comments on the Possibility of Death Stranding 3
There’s buzz about a possible third “Death Stranding” game, but Kojima wants to manage expectations. He admitted that he has an idea for “Death Stranding 3,” but he doesn’t intend to bring it to life. If a sequel does materialize, Kojima has stated he won’t be the director; instead, he plans to hand off the series to another team. After completing “Death Stranding 2,” Kojima Productions is planning to delve into “OD,” a game that Jordan Peele and Kojima are co-writing. Announced in 2023, not much is known about “OD” beyond a few concept sketches.
It’s yet to be determined what the future holds for the Death Stranding series following the launch of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach in June. It seems that Kojima may choose to part ways with the franchise. Following the enigmatic OD, Kojima is rumored to revisit his tactical espionage background with Physint. This project is a collaborative effort between PlayStation Studios and is slated for release as both a video game and a movie.
