Konami revealed its new action RPG, Rev. NOiR, at Sony’s February 2026 State of Play event. This marks a return for Konami to the role-playing game genre, following last year’s release of Eden’s Zero. While Konami is famous for action-packed series like Metal Gear Solid and Castlevania, and the horror of Silent Hill, Rev. NOiR is designed with classic RPG elements in mind.
While Konami is famous for franchises like Metal Gear and Silent Hill, the company has a long and impressive history of making role-playing games. The most popular of these is the Suikoden series, which first appeared on the PlayStation in 1995. Over the years, five main Suikoden games and six spin-offs were released, making it a major success for Konami. On March 6, 2025, updated versions of the first two games, called Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remastered: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars, came out on modern consoles. A version for the new Nintendo Switch 2 was also released when that console launched on June 6.
Konami’s Brand-New RPG Takes Inspiration From The Classics
Konami recently announced Rev. NOiR, a brand-new action RPG that takes inspiration from classic games in the genre. The game, which is being developed for the PlayStation 5, was revealed alongside a new Castlevania game and the Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection Vol 2 during Sony’s State of Play presentation. While the other announced titles are slated for release in 2026, Konami hasn’t announced when Rev. NOiR will be available.
In the world of Rev. NOiR, deadly, falling drops of light threaten everyone they touch. The story centers on a young man who wakes up with no memories, guided by a woman with extraordinary powers. Together, they embark on a quest to discover the source of these deadly lights and save their world. The game appears to be a fast-paced action RPG, with combat similar to recent Final Fantasy titles. Gameplay shown in the trailer recalls Final Fantasy XV and Final Fantasy XVI, featuring quick dodging and swift attacks with the main character moving like a blur.

Its anime-inspired art style is reminiscent of popular series like Bandai Namco’s Tales games and Sega’s Phantasy Star. While the game features a post-apocalyptic story, which is a common theme in RPGs, it’s the way the game shows that destruction – with the main character causing chaos and then reversing it – that makes it feel fresh and mysterious. It’s a unique take on a familiar genre.

Kadoi, a longtime RPG fan himself, explained that the development team wants to create a game that captures the epic scope and compelling storytelling that define the best role-playing games. With its classic visuals, updated combat, and original story, Rev. NOiR is sure to generate excitement among RPG fans as its release date approaches.
