Konami is Remaking Snake Eater Because Younger Gamers Don’t Know About MGS Anymore

As a longtime fan of the Metal Gear Solid series, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Having played and replayed this game countless times in the 2000s, it holds a special place in my heart as one of the most innovative and immersive games ever made. The news that Konami has decided to remake this classic is not only a delight but a necessity for ensuring that the Metal Gear Solid legacy continues to thrive for future generations.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is a highly anticipated remake of the classic stealth action game initially launched for PlayStation 2 in 2004. Developed by Konami over an extended period, this project has generated excitement through periodic content leaks such as screenshots and short video previews. The official release date for the full game is set for 2025.

Recently, I had the thrill of learning straight from the source – Noriaki Okamura, the producer of the Metal Gear Solid (MGS) series – that one key factor behind Konami’s decision to reimagine a classic game from this legendary series was… [insert reason here]. Can’t wait to see how they bring this iconic title back to life!

‘It Was Basically Our Duty’

In the latest edition of Play magazine (as reported by GamesRadar), Noriaki Okamura discussed a variety of topics related to Metal Gear Solid. He disclosed one significant factor that led Konami to remake Metal Gear Solid 3, over two decades after its initial release.

One major motivation behind our decision to remake the game is recognizing that many modern, younger gaming enthusiasts may not be aware of the Metal Gear series due to its aging popularity.

Essentially, it was our responsibility, our goal, to ensure the continuation of the series for future generations. As one might put it, we’re not just passing on genetic information; to quote Solid Snake, we’re leaving behind much more than that. But for those who may be unaware, who is Solid Snake?

During the 2000s, Metal Gear Solid 3 quickly became one of my all-time favorite games, and I found myself replaying its captivating narrative repeatedly. The game seemed so revolutionary for its era, offering a rich, extensive storyline, a flexible operating system design, and innovative camouflage, healing, and survival mechanics that truly set it apart.

In Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, all the original elements are there, but they’ve been significantly enhanced for this daring remake.

It’s true that Okamura has a valid observation. The initial Metal Gear game was launched in 1987, and the most significant installment since then was Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in 2015. This period coincides with the strained relationship between Konami and Hideo Kojima, the creator of the series.

In 2018, the team at Konami attempted to launch a survival horror Metal Gear Solid game titled MG Survive, but it turned out to be a massive failure instead.

It’s been about ten years since we last saw a Metal Gear Solid game, which makes diving into the series for the first time an intimidating prospect due to its rich and extensive history. With nearly four decades of content to explore, it can be overwhelming for newcomers who want to understand what all the excitement is about. How does one get started with a franchise this vast? The story of Metal Gear Solid spans over almost 40 years.

Let’s hope that the Snake Eater remake isn’t the end of it.
