  • MGS Delta: Snake Eater is expected to hit the market sometime in 2025.

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and nostalgia upon hearing about Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. Being part of that older generation who grew up playing the original games, it’s disheartening to see younger gamers missing out on such a seminal franchise.

As a devoted fan, I’m excited to share that my favorite game, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, was given the green light due to Konami’s increasing worry that newer generations might not recognize their iconic franchise. A senior company official revealed this fascinating detail, shedding light on how the remake of MGS 3: Snake Eater came into being.

In May 2023, Konami expressed interest in remaking additional Metal Gear Solid series games after MGS Delta. During this time, a representative from the company shared that they would begin with Snake Eater instead of MGS1, as fans requested it more intensely.

Apart from fan requests, there was another reason Konami took into account when considering remakes for the MGS series. This factor was a rising worry about the declining popularity of the Metal Gear series. This was stated by series producer Noriaki Okamura in an interview with UK magazine Play (as reported by GamesRadar). He pointed out that many new, younger gamers are not familiar with the Metal Gear series anymore, and this realization played a significant role in igniting the team’s enthusiasm for working on the upcoming remake.

MGS Delta: Snake Eater Won’t Just Cater to Fans of the Original

In light of the current situation, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is designed to satisfy longtime fans while also attracting newcomers. Since Snake Eater celebrates its 20th anniversary on November 17, a significant number of people may not have had an opportunity to play it in the past. Moreover, MGS5: The Phantom Pain has been around for nearly a decade, so there’s a growing need for a fresh, high-budget addition to the series to maintain its popularity and relevance going forward.

One reason we decided to remake the game is that we noticed many modern, younger gamers are no longer acquainted with the Metal Gear series.

MGS Delta’s Name Reflects Its Appeal to Old and New Fans Alike

The aim of appealing to both long-time and new fans influenced Konami’s choice to title the remake as “Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater” instead of keeping the original name. According to Okamura, “Snake Eater” is the first game in the series chronologically, and since it’s the first “MGS” game to receive a remake, it was logical not to include any numbers in the title.

Despite initial speculation suggesting that the MGS Delta: Snake Eater remake would launch towards the end of 2024, there’s no set release date or even a specific release window confirmed by November. Consequently, it appears that this remake might not appear on the market until at least the first half of 2025.
