Kong: Survivor Instinct Gameplay Debut Showcases 15 Minutes of Action

As a longtime fan of the King Kong saga, I must admit that the recent offerings haven’t exactly set the world on fire. From Skull Island: King Kong to Kong: The 8th Wonder of the World, it seems like each new game is trying harder than the last to bring us down rather than elevate the legacy of this iconic ape.

While we got a game based on King Kong last year in Skull Island: King Kong that was universally panned by critics (sitting at a “Weak” rating on OpenCritic), did you know there’s another game based on the giant ape that’s about to be released very soon? Kong: Survivor Instinct is in developmebt by 7Levels and wiill be out next week. If you’re curious how game is shaping up, we just got our first gameplay look.

7Levels unveiled a 15-minute sneak peek into their forthcoming 2.5D action-adventure title, based in the Monsterverse, today.

What Is the New King Kong Video Game About?

Unexpectedly, a Titan assault triggers urgent evacuations. However, not all citizens manage to reach sanctuary before the destruction unfolds. Amidst the clash of combating beasts, several inhabitants find themselves cornered and trapped within the crumbling urban landscape-including your own daughter.

Survivor Instinct is an action-adventure game set in a 2.5D world where you’ll navigate through realistic platforming levels, engage in tough battles, and discover new areas reminiscent of Metroidvanias, all while embarking on a gripping survival journey fitting for the Monsterverse franchise.

Manipulate the Titans with Monarch technology, leveraging their immense power to aid you as you traverse a dangerous labyrinth filled with crumbling structures, hazardous spills, and blazing infernos. Forage for supplies, weaponry, and equipment to tackle environmental conundrums and protect yourself from both human adversaries and monstrous threats.

It’s likely that Kong: Survivor Instinct will outperform Skull Island, given the trailer’s promising visuals. Compared to Skull Island, it appears more graphically advanced. The last game featuring this character was Kong: The 8th Wonder of the World, which came out in 2005 for the Game Boy Advance.

On October 22nd, Kong: Survivor Instinct is set for release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms, with an estimated retail price of $24.99.
