KRAFTON Invests $89 Million Into Short-Form Video Platform

As a seasoned gamer with years of experience under my belt, I must admit that the rapid growth and evolution of the digital entertainment landscape is nothing short of fascinating. KRAFTON’s latest investment into Spoon Labs, a short-form video platform, is an intriguing move that highlights the increasing popularity of ‘quick-release’ content in today’s fast-paced world.

Krafton, the company behind PUBG Studios, Striking Distance, and Tango Gameworks, has announced a significant investment into Spoon Labs, a video platform focused on short-form content. This is Krafton’s largest non-gaming investment to date, as stated in a recent press release.

Short-Form is King

Over the past few years, platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram have significantly boosted their resources towards creating brief video content. This trend mirrors a broader cultural evolution, where people seem to favor snappy content – short videos that can educate or amuse within 60 seconds or less.

As an avid supporter, I’m thrilled to share that KRAFTON has recognized the power of concise content and has injected a whopping $89 million into Spoons Lab! This substantial investment is all in support of the creation of ‘Vigloo’, an innovative online video service. What sets Vigloo apart is its focus on short-form, dramatic content that’s sure to captivate audiences like us!

CH Kim, the CEO of KRAFTON, said:

For several years, Spoon Labs has demonstrated its impressive global business acumen with Spoon. We’re excited about collaborating to produce entertainment that appeals globally, fostering unity among viewers, and building a resilient industry infrastructure for our upcoming short-form drama platform.

The press release highlighted that the investment serves a dual purpose, namely establishing new intellectual property (IP) rights.

Spoon Labs’ CEO said:

Over time, we’ve been enhancing our status as a worldwide content platform, broadening our offerings from audio to video. Our sights are set on entering both the U.S. and Japanese markets shortly. In partnership with KRAFTON, we aim to set a fresh international benchmark in the realm of short-form dramas.

What are your thoughts on the increasing popularity of brief content, such as TikTok videos? Do you believe it’s essential to rebuild our focus abilities, or do you find yourself comfortably spending extended periods scrolling through these platforms without interruption?
