Christopher Judge, who plays Kratos in the recent God of War games, has shared some updates with fans about the upcoming trilogy remake and the next project from Santa Monica Studio. The God of War series has been generating a lot of buzz lately, especially after a surprise announcement of a Metroidvania-style spin-off during the PlayStation State of Play, along with numerous leaks and rumors. Thanks to Judge, fans now have a clearer picture of what’s coming next.
Following the successful 2018 reimagining of God of War and its sequel, God of War Ragnarök, fans have been eager to see what Santa Monica Studio would do next. While there was speculation about exploring new mythologies, the Valhalla DLC for Ragnarök hinted at a possible remake of the original God of War trilogy. Now, it’s been confirmed that a remake is happening, and it won’t just be a visual update – it sounds like a complete overhaul.
Kratos Actor Says God of War Remakes Will Have a “New Fighting System” and More
During Fan Expo Vancouver, voice actor Judge chatted with YouTuber and Twitch streamer Fuzhpuzy and shared some interesting details about the future of God of War. While Santa Monica Studio recently announced they’re working on a trilogy of remakes, they didn’t reveal much beyond the return of original voice actor TC Carson as Kratos. Judge confirmed Carson’s involvement and added that the remakes will feature updated technology, including a completely new combat system. He also hinted that the games will include additional content, potentially expanding the story or adding new gameplay features beyond what was in the original trilogy.

While recent God of War titles are praised for their excellent combat systems, Santa Monica Studio could either replicate that style or forge a new path. Given that the remake trilogy appears to be in its early stages, concrete details are scarce, and features are subject to change before the final release. However, Judge’s comments make it clear that this project is more extensive than simply updating the original games.
The actor who plays Kratos also hinted at future projects from the studio. Without being asked, he mentioned fans should expect news “around late summer.” One rumor suggests a new game from Santa Monica Studio is planned for 2027, which could be what he’s talking about. It’s currently unknown if this game will be connected to the God of War series, but since he referred to it as “what we’re doing,” it likely is, especially if he’s involved. This could be a brand new God of War installment or a separate spin-off title.

While some fans speculate the next God of War game will explore Egyptian mythology, others believe it will revisit Greece or continue the Norse saga. Either way, we likely won’t have to wait long for details. The God of War series is thriving, and there’s plenty to be excited about.
