Now that everyone’s been introduced, Episode 3 takes us straight into the heart of My Hero Academia: Vigilantes.
A Look Into Their Daily Lives
The Trio Settle Into Their New Normal
In the latest installment of “My Hero Academia: Vigilantes,” we delve into the everyday existence of character Koichi, offering a glimpse into his life beyond the vigilante world. As the narrative unfolds, we find ourselves in Koichi’s college days, providing insight into his life away from the vigilantes. However, being a vigilante hero is no walk in the park for Koichi, as he regrets that his acts of justice don’t come with a paycheck – a fact that keeps him juggling both work and academic responsibilities.
In addition to learning about Koichi’s life, we find out that he resides in the top-floor apartment of his building and lives by himself. However, after meeting Pop Step and Knuckleduster, it appears that Knuckleduster, no longer wearing his Vigilantes costume, has settled into Koichi’s home, eating a packed lunch and watching TV. Although this sudden presence surprises Koichi, Knuckleduster promptly reveals his true identity. Despite trusting his new mentor, Koichi remains cautious because he is not yet familiar with the older man.
What are you saying? This room is a communal space.
Following the discovery that Knuckle had broken into his place, a girl who looked quite young suddenly arrived at Koichi’s door, hastily making her entrance. She swiftly applied her striking makeup, thus unveiling herself as Pop Step. As a result, Koichi’s apartment transformed into their operational headquarters for the day, with Knuckleduster and Pop Step getting acquainted with his living space and sharing their plans for the day.
The Idol Takes Stage
An Aspiring Idol and Her Overzealous Fans
At the outset of the episode, inside Koichi’s apartment, Pop Step discloses that she has a live performance later in the day, labeled as “guerrilla” style. Meanwhile, Koichi attends his part-time work, while Pop Step performs on stage accompanied by her enthusiastic fans. Utilizing her unique ability called Leap, she enhances the show’s appeal. Two middle school students from the previous episode reappear, carrying Pop Step’s light sticks and merchandise, synchronizing with her music as transformed individuals.
As her fanbase expanded, some overly zealous admirers started to approach her for a handshake. Unfortunately, during Pop Step’s impromptu performance, one such fan, under the influence of Ideo Trigger, made his way closer. To diffuse the situation, Knuckleduster and Koichi advised Pop Step to retreat to a private space and offer a handshake, hoping it would calm him down. However, this tactic only fueled the fan’s obsession further. In the end, Knuckleduster managed to save the day by throwing flour on the fan’s sticky figure, rescuing Pop Step in the process, although she too ended up covered in flour.
Following the event, the threesome heads back to Koichi’s apartment, voicing their disapproval of Koichi’s subpar shampoo and empty fridge. This did not sit well with Koichi. To showcase their familiarity with Koichi’s living space, Knuckleduster strolls around the apartment in his boxers, while Pop Step dries her hair using a blow-dryer. If there was any doubt before, their behavior now mirrors that of a family. Though Koichi hadn’t envisioned his college life to be this way, he finds contentment in this recent turn of events.
Instant Villains Are On The Rise
Drugs Are Never Free. So, What’s The Objective?
In this rapidly emerging scene filled with swift antagonists, Detective Tsukauchi clarifies the essence of the latest street drug. Known as Ideo Trigger, this substance is a quick-quirk activator, functioning similarly to a Quirk amplifier; it even has the power to bestow users with Hero-grade Quirks on the spot. Given its allure in this extraordinary human world, it’s no wonder it’s sought after. But as Detective Tsukauchi cautions, the Ideo Trigger drug is forbidden and unauthorized for use within Japan.
It has been discovered that all instances of Instant Villain occurrences have been confined to specific locations, such as the downtown district and East Naruhata, which Tanuma deems as questionable neighborhoods. The good news is that by identifying these areas, there’s a chance we can trace the origin. However, one obstacle remains: every suspect who turned into villains claims they got the drug from an unknown person, suggesting they didn’t actively seek it out; instead, they were given it.
Recognizing that no one gives away drugs, Tsukauchi and Tanuma understand there’s something more going on here, as a drug lord wouldn’t just distribute drugs for free. Consequently, Tanuma starts exploring potential reasons behind this action. At present, the goal and reason aren’t clear, but it seems the dealers are investing in something bigger.
- It’s not a regular drug-dealing scheme.
- It’s a political statement or disturbance of public order.
- It could be a large-scale money-making strategy.
Kuin Hachisuka Makes Her Move
With The Heroes Working Hard, Kuin Slips Away With Her New “Friend”
The camera switches to Koichi’s apartment, now their headquarters, where Pop Step discovers that the troublesome Instant Villain who disrupted her show has become friends with two middle school students. Given they knew about the drugs, these students devised a strategy to uncover the drug source, enlisting Pop Step’s help. However, this operation required secrecy, so they decided to keep Knuckleduster out of it since he might intimidate the former villain upon hearing the plan.
Hold on. That old man will just beat that kid up again.
As they devise their strategy to encounter the ex-villain, Koichi and Pop Step find themselves unexpectedly crossing paths with three teenagers. One of these students identifies Pop and requests a photograph, initially appearing harmless. However, unbeknownst to them, one of these high schoolers is actually involved in distributing the drug.
Afterward, we move on to introducing Kuin Hachisuka, our antagonist, along with her unique abilities. As a freelance villain, she employs swarms of bees laced with powerful drugs to stir up trouble in the city. This uncontrolled release of the drug leaves numerous unsuspecting citizens transformed into temporary villains, causing mass chaos and panic. In the midst of this commotion, a team of Heroes, including Endeavor and All Might, rushes to the scene to help. However, the former villain Pop Step, who was supposed to meet up, gets lost in the confusion and is swiftly captured by Hachisuka. As we witness the deployment of the worker bees, it becomes clear whom Knuckleduster had been pursuing all along.
