LA Noire May Finally Get a Spiritual Successor, But It’s Not All Roses

LA Noire May Finally Get a Spiritual Successor, But It's Not All Roses

As a dedicated gamer with a soft spot for unique and immersive crime thrillers, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia when I think about the groundbreaking experience that was LA Noire. The game, developed by Team Bondi and published by Rockstar Games, took us on an unforgettable journey through the gritty streets of 1940s Los Angeles as we followed detective Cole Phelps in his pursuit of justice.

LA Noire still remains one of the most unique games in the crime thriller genre. Developed by Team Bondi and published by Rockstar Games, LA Noire put players in the shoes of detective Cole Phelps as he sets out to solve various crimes throughout Los Angeles in the 1940s. The game’s interrogation gameplay mixed with the established mechanics and open world of Rockstar projects, made LA Noire a special one-off title.

Although LA Noire‘s achievement fell short of expanding into a larger franchise due to its moderate success, the captivating crime-solving experience and intriguing murder mysteries presented in the game have left fans longing for more. A recent Instagram post from music composer Freyja Garbett hinted at a new LA Noire project called Snowden House, being developed by VR studio Video Games Deluxe, fueling speculation of a sequel. Regrettably, the prospect of a follow-up to LA Noire remains an unrealized hope at this point.

A Sequel to LA Noire is Currently Just a Concept

Snowden House is Not a Fully-Realized Project

Following Garbett’s Instagram post that sparked much debate, Video Games Deluxe promptly addressed the situation regarding “Snowden House” in “LA Noire: The VR Case Files.” As the developers behind this project, they explained that “Snowden House” was merely a virtual reality (VR) demo showcasing technology based on an unused case from “LA Noire.” Garbett’s contribution played a role in creating this demo, but for now, there were no definite plans to make it publicly available.

The developers at Video Games Deluxe have announced in their official statement that they are uncertain if the demo, named “Snowden House,” will be released to the public. This news may be disappointing for fans longing for additional games within the LA Noire universe. However, it’s important to note that Snowden House is just a tech demo, serving as a small indication that developers are still exploring ideas within the LA Noire world.

The depiction of 1940s Los Angeles in “L.A. Noire” is worth revisiting. Thirteen years have passed since its initial release, yet the possibility of a sequel remains. Presently, Rockstar Games is engrossed with developing “GTA 6,” making a new installment of “L.A. Noire” an unlikely announcement for now. Nevertheless, there’s a persistent clamor for continuing Rockstar’s standalone projects that didn’t spawn franchises.

There is Still Hope For Rockstar’s Forgotten IPs

Rockstar may not have been the creators behind LA Noire, but they’ve left their mark on it through publishing. Among Rockstar’s intriguing titles, LA Noire and Bully have remained dormant, ripe for expansion into franchises. Despite the passing years with no developments in sight, there’s still a glimmer of possibility that we might see more from these two games. Both could benefit from further exploration, but due to its open-ended world and potential for deeper storylines, LA Noire holds greater promise.

As a fan, I’ve been intrigued by Video Games Deluxe’s continued exploration of the “LA Noire” universe, despite the potential false start with the Snowden House announcement. It’s fascinating that they’re still pushing boundaries with this groundbreaking title, even if it’s just for tech demos. If a true successor to “LA Noire” ever emerges, I hope it goes beyond virtual reality and takes us on a new journey through the gritty world of 1940s Los Angeles crime. Though it may be a long shot given the game’s niche appeal, my imagination is running wild with possibilities.
