LA Thieves Beat a Dominant Surge to Win CDL Minor II

In the 2025 Call of Duty League season, the Los Angeles Thieves claimed their initial significant victory by triumphing over Vancouver Surge in the final match of Minor II. The series was tightly contested, as Vancouver had been on a winning streak, showcasing the impressive form of their revamped roster in recent matches.

In the end, Vancouver Surge managed to defeat Boston, FaZe, and Toronto in their path, and gave a fierce battle against LA Thieves in the final match. However, it was the LA Thieves who emerged victorious, claiming the $20,000 prize money and 30 CDL points that moved them into second place in the season standings.

Minor Win, Major Gains

As a thrilled fan, I’m excited about the fresh CDL Minor structure set for the 2025 season! This innovative setup separates qualifying stages and introduces a cash prize for players to strive towards. It’s a ‘winner takes all’ format, where the victor reaps all the rewards. Each stage consists of both a Minor and a Major event, with Atlanta FaZe claiming victory in the first one held before Major I in Madrid.

In this tournament round, it was the LA Thieves who excelled. They had already secured a pass due to their high ranking in the regular season. The team then dismantled Cloud9 and Royal Ravens, paving the way for the final match. In that deciding game, they overpowered Vancouver Surge to secure the top position.

It was a clockwork tournament for the LA Thieves, but other teams didn’t fare so well.

Atlanta FaZe missed their shots and ultimately lost to Vancouver Surge after a deciding fifth game. Optic Texas fought against the Falcons and emerged victorious, but were defeated by Toronto Ultra in a 0-3 matchup.

In the match against the Vegas Falcons, history nearly was rewritten. The Falcons displayed tenacity during the initial Hardpoint and ended up winning 3-0 in Control. The first round of Search came down to the final moments, with OpTic Texas requiring eleven rounds to clinch victory.

That could have been a very different story.

Looking forward to Major II, set for March 20-23 in Texas, where we might see some changes among the influential teams. If Optic Texas doesn’t step up their game before the hometown event, they could find themselves in a challenging position.
