Larian Studios CEO Says Next Game Might Not Come Until 2029 - October 2024

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I can’t help but feel a bit of anticipation tinged with patience when it comes to Larian Studios‘ next game. Having played Baldur’s Gate 3 and witnessed the studio’s dedication to detail, I know that they won’t rush something out just for the sake of meeting a deadline. If anything, I’d rather wait four-to-five years to get my hands on a polished masterpiece than settle for a half-baked game in 2025.

As a devoted fan, I’m eagerly anticipating the next masterpiece from Larian Studios, which they hinted might grace our screens somewhere between 2028 and 2029. During the SEA Game Awards, their charismatic CEO Swen Vincke gave us a tantalizing glimpse into their future plans.

He then said afterwards that people shouldn’t hold them to that timeline or date.

He explained to IGN following the acceptance of his Special Recognition Award that his previous comment was meant humorously. He added that they would release the game once it’s fully developed, acknowledging that due to their size, the development process requires time, so fans should not expect a specific release date.

Regarding the upcoming game from Larian Studios, it remains undecided at this point. Following the completion of Baldur’s Gate 3, they have confirmed that they won’t be developing another Baldur’s Gate title. However, they are currently working on several projects simultaneously. One of these new projects will introduce a fresh intellectual property from the studio.

In their own words since 1996, they’ve always cherished the autonomy to explore creativity without bounds. They announced that they are fully departing from Dungeons & Dragons, but continue to offer support for Baldur’s Gate 3 through a dedicated team within the company.
