In the game “Last Epoch“, Bows designed for Rogues can match up to all other elements when players properly align their synergies. With the Marksman subclass, you’ll find numerous extra ways to enhance your long-range assaults.
This guide outlines a unique build for the game Last Epoch, merging a critical hit (crit) focused strategy with one that relies on damage over time (DoT). To everyone’s surprise, this blend works exceptionally well when all components are combined. It excels at clearing challenging end-game maps and offers promising early-game advancement as well.
In the new version, I used less technical terms to make the guide more accessible and easier to understand for players who may not be familiar with game-specific jargon like “crit” or “DoT.
Best Puncture Rogue Build in Last Epoch
In this construction, we’ll primarily employ the Puncture skill for both potent single-target and area-of-effect (AoE) damage. However, it’s essential to note that Puncture alone won’t be the sole contributor to our DPS (Damage Per Second). Instead, we’ll extensively leverage the effects of Debilitating conditions like Bleed and Poison. By opting for a Puncture Damage Over Time (DoT) approach, you’ll manage to bypass the moderate AoE and DPS issues associated with early-game Bow Rogue in Last Epoch, without needing extra active abilities.
Early Game Rogue Puncture Build
Shooting an arrow straight through all enemies in a line is what a puncture does, and it doesn’t require any mana. However, the damage isn’t particularly high. To increase its damage output, consider choosing passive nodes within its skill tree that give Puncture a chance to cause Bleed upon hitting the enemy.
Acid Flask enhances the bleeding damage caused by Puncture by also inflicting poison on enemies. This poison effect adds to the existing bleed procs, allowing for significant damage over time even without constant enemy attacks. Similar to other damage-over-time (DoT) builds, this setup enables more efficient kiting of enemies, expediting your early game advancement.
Your primary defensive skills are Shift and Decoy. Shift enables you to evade and change positions, while Decoy serves to draw the attention of enemies away from you. Given that this build lacks numerous defensive stats and skills, Decoy proves particularly beneficial.
For this particular gameplay, simply keep casting Puncture as you approach your next location while moving forward. Allow the DoTs (Damage Over Time) to take care of the job. When encountering dense groups, elites, or bosses, toss an Acid Flask at them to weaken their resistances and increase the damage caused by the DoTs.
For the remaining open spot, feel free to utilize your preferred ability. We’ll be updating it soon with the ‘Detonating Arrow’ skill.
Puncture Mutilate Rogue Marksman Build in Last Epoch
Upon unlocking the Marksman subclass, the base structure mostly stays consistent. However, it becomes notably mightier, and as you progress and specialize, you’ll gain access to potent complementary abilities.
Detonating Arrow Build
After gaining the Marksman subclass, you’ll gain access to the Detonating Arrow ability, which we’ll primarily use to increase poison on enemies. First, equip Scorpion Arrow and Deadly Ailments, then gradually progress towards Rapid Detonation, located at the bottom-left of the skill tree, as you level up this skill.
Based on the probability of the poison effect, the Detonating Arrow ability can cause a substantial number of poison build-ups against each enemy within its impact range with every cast. This makes it effective for wiping out groups of enemies, and it becomes even more potent when combined with the Puncture modifier.
Puncture Build
In our selection of Detonating Arrow for a poison build, it’s due to the synergy between Scalebane and Mutilate from the Puncture skill tree. Specifically, Scalebane switches all bleed-related effects linked to Puncture into poison-based ones. For instance, your Bleed chance transforms into Poison chance, and Armor Shred becomes a reduction in Poison resistance. Most notably, Scalebane indirectly affects Mutilate as well.
Enhance the third arrow fired from Puncture in each instance to unleash all accumulated Bleed damage as a single powerful explosion. With Scalebane, Mutilate will instead trigger Poison stacks instead of Bleed stacks. Equipped with Acid Flask and Detonating Arrow, this Last Epoch Rogue Bow setup allows for the simultaneous detonation of any enemy’s Poison DoTs when using Puncture.
In Last Epoch, focus on mastering Puncture initially, and make sure to stay close to the current setup. Keep in mind that should you decide to reassign your skills, you’ll need to rank up that particular skill from scratch again.
Acid Flask Build
Instead of focusing solely on the Acid Flask, pay special attention to acquiring both Poison Pools and Amatoxic Pools. By doing so, the Acid Flask will transform into a persistent area effect, continually poisoning enemies and enhancing their damage over time with Efficacious Toxin.
After that, progress towards “Toxic Salvo and Barrage” for better flask-throwing frequency in each skill use, significantly expanding the skill’s area of impact.
Shift Build
The primary purpose of Shift is for mobility enhancement, so focus on acquiring abilities that reduce its cooldown and offer additional benefits as well. Initially, allocate your first skill points to Velocity, Momentum, and Swift Recovery. Following this, explore the Shadowslip branch, ultimately obtaining Arrival Gift for synergy with the Acid Flask.
Decoy Build

Using Frostfire Powder enhances Decoy’s crowd control capabilities considerably. Combine it with Backup Buddy to receive an additional Decoy charge, and eventually obtain Grand Diversion for even more decoys as well. Another option is to choose Acid Fumes for increased Poison effect instead.
This ability is primarily utilized in combat against high-level groups and bosses. For regular skirmishes, it’s better to lean on your other skills. If you find that Decoy isn’t necessary as much, consider swapping it out for either Dark Quiver (with Lacerating Arrows) or Smoke Bomb (with Toxic Cloud).
Gear and Preferred Stats
In this construction, you’re aiming to acquire items that boost the probability of causing Debilitating effects such as Poison, Ignite, and Bleed. If your chance for these ailments exceeds 100%, you’ll also have a chance to apply an extra stack of the ailment when you hit. Ideally, maximizing your Chance to Inflict Poison will enhance Puncture/Mutilate later in the game.
As for the rest of your items and gear stats, focus on getting the following
- Bow Damage
- Damage Over Time
- Poison Damage
- Dexterity
- Defensive stats (evasion, elemental resistances, armor, and health)
- Mana
Monoliths in Last Epoch are great for target-farming equipment.
If you’re looking for Unique weapons that can work well with this build, try the following:
- Shadowstring grants crit chance, bonus charges for Shift and Smoke Bomb, as well as Ward when you use the latter two skills.
- Hydra Arc gives Poison stats, levels to Dexterity skills, and bonus elemental damage. When you Evade, you cast your most recently used bow attack at a nearby enemy (excluding channeled attacks and ones that have cooldowns).
- Longshot grants bonus elemental and physical damage as well as Life Leech as Health on Bow Damage. Puncture cannot be evaded and it deals more damage against distant enemies.
Passive Skills

In this build, as it doesn’t involve elemental damage, consider selecting nodes from the lower part of the Marksman tree. The “Prolonged Demise” node is particularly beneficial due to the focus on DoT (Damage over Time) in the build, and later, don’t forget to pick up both “Barbed Arrows” and “Poison Tipped Arrows”, which are located towards the top of the tree.
In a nutshell, the choices you make depend on your personal preference. If you find yourself frequently losing health, focus on acquiring abilities that boost health and evasion. To tackle mana issues, consider selecting the Sapping Strikes node from the Rogue tree. For those seeking damage output, increasing attack speed is beneficial as it allows for stacking Poison and triggering the third Puncture hit which explodes the poison.
Notable Marksman passives include:
- Draining Arrows: Increases bow attack speed and restores health when you hit enemies.
- Assassin’s Quiver: Increases bow damage and crit chance.
- Prolonged Demise: Reduces the effect of DoTs on you while increasing the power of your own DoT effects when using a bow.
- Barbed Arrows: Gain bonus physical damage, Phys Res Shred Chance, and Chance to Inflict Bleed on Bow Hits.
- Poison Tipped Arrows: Gain Poison Penetration, Bow Poison Chance, and Poison Duration.
- Barrage of Pain: Gain Barrage of Pain stacks on bow hits, with each stack increasing your crit chance.
- Perfect Aim: Barrage of Pain stacks now also increase your crit strike multiplier and restores health on crits.
To ensure optimal performance with the standard Rogue tree, consider raising its total points to 22. It’s beneficial to allocate two of those points towards Sapping Strikes, as they aid in both health and mana recovery.
