Last of Us Season 2 Deleted Scene LEAKED! You Won’t Believe What Happened!

Summary

  • Season 2 of The Last of Us altered scenes from the game, like Ellie’s interaction with Owen at the aquarium.
  • Emotional moments like Joel’s death and Ellie’s retribution set the tone for fans.
  • An alternative version of Owen and Ellie’s confrontation in the game was not as intense in the series.

I’ve just finished bingeing through the second season of HBO’s “The Last of Us,” and let me tell you, it left me hanging! The show hinted at what might be coming up for Abby, Ellie, and Dina in season 3 as they continue their journey in this post-apocalyptic world. The series did a great job of adapting many crucial scenes from the Naughty Dog sequel, but there were some alterations – like the encounter between Ellie, Dina, and Owen at the aquarium, which was quite different from the game’s original scene.

However, a fresh look behind the scenes of “The Last of Us” season 2 reveals that an alternate take on this event is remarkably closer to the game’s harrowing scene compared to what we saw in the show.

In a similar vein to the game itself, season 2 was a deeply emotional journey for viewers, despite knowing what lay ahead. Unlike in Part 2, Joel’s tragic demise in episode 2 showed a slightly different twist on how the hardened survivor met his end – he chose to allow Abby to strike him with a golf club shaft to the neck instead of brutally beating his own skull. This grisly incident, which Ellie bore witness to, set her on a mission for vengeance, tracking down Abby and the WLF members. Although fans had already glimpsed Ellie’s ruthless nature following her brutal interrogation of Nora (Tati Gabrielle) to discover Abby’s whereabouts, the scene where she confronts Owen and Mel stands out as one of season 2’s most poignant moments.

The Last of Us BTS Footage Shows an Alternate Scene With Mel and Owen

In an exclusive sneak peek shared on the official Twitter account of “The Last of Us,” fans catch a glimpse into the meticulous work that went into creating season 2. The clip features tense moments such as Abby being pursued by infected, Ellie being ambushed by a stalker, and the nerve-wracking subway encounter between Dina, Ellie, and an unspecified threat. A quick peek at the video’s end hints that there may have been a confrontation between Owen and Ellie, which appears to differ from what viewers have seen so far.

At the 4 minute and 19 second mark, a brief altercation occurs between Owen and Ellie where they scuffle over a gun. This event aligns with the game’s narrative as Ellie shoots Owen in the stomach when he attempts to grab her weapon, but in the finale of The Last of Us season 2, this sequence is omitted. Instead, Ellie impulsively fires at Owen, hitting him fatally in the throat and inadvertently killing Mel with the same bullet. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, co-creator Craig Mazin explained that this specific scene was excised from the television series for a compelling reason. “Ellie isn’t really able to kill Owen – you see Bella [Ramsey] and Spencer Lord, who is 6’4″ and incredibly intimidating,” Mazin added. “A physical struggle wouldn’t have gone well, and she’s not there to kill them. She just wants to confront Abby.

As a passionate moviegoer, I must admit that the scene between Ellie and Mel didn’t quite live up to my expectations, especially considering the emotional weight it carried in the game. Despite Ellie’s visceral reaction to taking Mel’s life, her determination to press on and locate Abby was unwavering. The truth is, Ellie wasn’t particularly remorseful over Mel’s death; she was too consumed by her burning anger and thirst for revenge to feel much else. She believed that the two of them had earned their fate in a twisted kind of justice.

However, even though the intensity of the confrontation seemed muted, it was still an incredibly harrowing moment – primarily due to Mel’s innocent, unborn child, who was left to perish alongside its mother. This tragic loss added an additional layer of trauma to the scene that resonated deeply with me as a viewer.

At this point, HBO hasn’t announced a release date for Season 3 of “The Last of Us”. However, if the pattern of previous seasons holds true, production might start in the year 2026, with the series potentially airing around early 2027.
