Last of Us Season Two Will ‘Tell An Important Backstory’ That The Game Couldn’t

As a die-hard fan of The Last of Us since its inception back in 2013, I can hardly contain my excitement for the upcoming second season! Having spent countless hours immersed in the post-apocalyptic world created by Neil Druckmann and his team at Naughty Dog, I’ve grown deeply attached to these characters. The first season was a masterpiece that not only stayed true to the source material but also delved deeper into the backstories of our beloved characters.

At present, HBO is busy bringing the second season of “The Last of Us” to our screens, but viewers will have to wait a few more months before it’s broadcast. In the past few weeks, pictures from the set have been leaked, offering glimpses into the costumes, locations, key plot points, and some of the actors who’ve joined the cast, taking on roles inspired by “The Last of Us Part II” (2020).

Lately, Neil Druckmann, the brain behind the series and chief at Naughty Dog, had a chat with Variety regarding the anticipations surrounding the second installment of the acclaimed live-action remake.

Diving Deeper

One strength of the first season lies in its detailed exploration of each character’s background, whether they are main or supporting players. For instance, an entire episode was dedicated to the backstory of Bill and Frank, who had modest roles in the game but became central figures in the TV show due to their intense and heartrending subplot.

It was that episode that pulled in one of The Last of Us’ Emmy Awards.

In a recent conversation with Variety, Druckmann hinted that delving deeper into significant background stories may reappear in the upcoming second season.

This season includes elements I’m genuinely thrilled about – aspects we subtly foreshadowed, and one scene stands out as something I believe fans of the game will relish, since it provides a wealth of backstory on a crucial character, which wasn’t feasible to delve into during the game itself.

In The Last of Us Part II, you might encounter a variety of characters. This game is rich, extensive, and features an eclectic group of characters woven into a tale that unfolds across numerous hours. Some speculate that it could be about ‘Lev’, a rebellious ‘Seraphite’ character in the game who forges a strong connection with Abby, one of the game’s main adversaries.

Neil Druckmann and Craig Mazin have stayed faithful to the original story of The Last of Us while also exploring creative freedom to reinvent the world that was initially revealed in 2013. The first season has minimal flaws, and anticipation for the second season remains strong and high – I’m excitedly looking forward to impressive results.
