AMD recently revealed some details about the next Xbox during its earnings call. CEO Lisa Su confirmed that the new console will use a custom-built AMD processor and is currently scheduled to launch in 2027.
Back in June 2025, Xbox revealed a long-term partnership with AMD to develop future hardware. Sarah Bond, President of Xbox, stated they’re collaborating on PCs, handheld devices, cloud technology, and consoles. This isn’t a new relationship, though – both the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S already utilize AMD processors.
The Next Xbox Could Launch in 2027
So, I was reading Insider Gaming earlier, and Robert DeFelice reported on AMD’s latest earnings call. Basically, AMD’s CEO, Dr. Lisa Su, was talking about how things are going in the gaming world. She said they’re expecting a pretty big drop – like, a significant double-digit percentage – in revenue from game consoles in 2026. Although Xbox has confirmed they’re working on new consoles, Microsoft hasn’t officially announced the next Xbox or said when it will be released. Xbox executive Sarah Bond has stated the next console will offer a high-quality, carefully selected gaming experience. However, based on recent reports from AMD, an official announcement could happen before the end of 2026. This would follow a similar pattern to the Xbox Series X, which was revealed at the Game Awards in 2019, almost a year before it went on sale.
What Will the Next Xbox Look Like?
While we’re still waiting for Microsoft to officially confirm details, recent statements from AMD support earlier reports from trusted sources. Back in March 2025, Jez Corden of Windows Central first suggested the next Xbox could be released around 2027 on The Xbox Two podcast, and that it would essentially be a powerful PC. He’s consistently shared similar information since then, most recently stating the new Xbox is likely to launch no earlier than late 2027. Corden revealed he first learned about the next-generation Xbox while investigating the Xbox Ally. His latest report for Windows Central reinforces that the next Xbox will be a fully functional Windows PC designed to be used primarily with a controller.
