Starbreeze Studios, the company that created Payday 3, has recently had layoffs. This comes after a challenging launch for the game, adding to the studio’s difficulties.
Several Starbreeze employees posted on LinkedIn Wednesday to say that layoffs were happening. The company hasn’t made an official announcement about the cuts yet.
QA tester Alexander Pereswetoff-Morath shared that he received news today that he was being let go from Starbreeze in Stockholm, and is now looking for a new job. He mentioned that he had been with the company for over seven years – the longest he’s ever worked at any organization.
Sabina af Jochnick, a Senior Tech Producer, shared that her position is potentially affected by recent layoffs at Starbreeze, and she is starting to explore new opportunities.
Payday 3 has had a difficult time since its release in 2023. The launch was plagued with issues, leading to player frustration and ultimately the firing of Starbreeze’s CEO, Tobias Sjögren. As a result, Starbreeze announced in late 2024 that they would be reducing investment in future content for the game.
Even though the game didn’t receive a lot of investment, the studio kept it updated and supported. The latest update, released on January 13th (Update 3.1), added a new heist called “Shopping Spree” and also adjusted the game’s balance.
TopMob has contacted Starbreeze to ask about the recent layoffs. We will update this article if we receive a reply.
