Laziest Bleach Characters

Key Takeaways

  • Lazy characters in Bleach avoid responsibility, which can make them entertaining to watch.
  • Characters like Suigetsu, Yukio, and Gremmy showcase laziness in different ways.
  • From lounging with a handheld console to lazy combat tactics, their unique personalities shine.

As a long-time fan of Bleach, I must say that the characters in this series never cease to amuse and intrigue me. Among the many memorable personalities, there are some who stand out for their laid-back attitudes towards life, even in the face of danger.

In the world of Bleach, not all characters share Ichigo’s active and impulsive nature. There are many individuals, both good and evil, who often choose to let others handle their duties while they indulge in solitude. Essentially, these characters can be described as somewhat indolent due to their tendency to shy away from assuming responsibilities or getting deeply involved in significant matters when it might be expected of them.

Thanks to Tite Kubo’s exceptional talent for character development, even the lazy characters in the anime, Bleach, manage to be entertaining. This is often due to their humorous antics or their immense power. Regardless of the reason, these are the characters who are known as some of the laziest within the Bleach series.

1. Kyoraku Shunsui

Suigetsu’s Nonchalant Personality Makes Him A Pretty Lousy Combatant

  • First Appearance: Episode 24

At the outset of the “Bleach” narrative, Captain Kyoraku emerges as a powerful yet remarkably nonchalant figure within the Gotei 13. Upon the initial encounter with Kyoraku by fans, following Chad’s run-in with him, the captain is discovered reclining on the floor, indulging in a solitary drink, and even extends a drink offer to his adversary standing nearby.

Instead of immediately reacting when Chad becomes aggressive and starts a series of attacks, Kyoraku effortlessly avoids each one as if it were a game, even while seated. However, as the story unfolds, he gradually assumes more responsibility. Yet, even in the face of grave threats such as Coyote Starrk, Kyoraku’s lazy tendencies often surface at the most inconvenient moments.

2. Yukio Hans Vorarlberna

Yukio Can Almost Always Be Seen Lazing Around With His Handheld Console

  • First Appearance: Episode 343

It’s quite simple to overlook Yukio’s membership in the Fullbringers since he often prefers solitude and playing his handheld video game console. However, when the Fullbringers face a significant task, like training Ichigo, it’s Riruka who has to encourage Yukio to contribute, which he does reluctantly.

Due to this, the character spends very little time on-screen, as it seems that when he isn’t required urgently, he is deeply immersed in a highly engrossing game. Even during his recall for the climactic storyline, Yukio often continues to focus more on the screen than anything else. One point worth noting is that whatever game he’s playing must be quite lengthy, given how intensely he persists with it.

3. Gremmy Thoumeaux

Gremmy’s Imaginative Powers Means He Doesn’t Need To Move A Muscle In Combat

  • First Appearance: TYBW Episode 15

Because Gremmy possesses The Visionary power, enabling him to materialize anything he envisions, he doesn’t have to make a single move when confronting an adversary, which gives him a rather laid-back fighting style. This can be clearly observed in Gremmy’s duel with the bloodthirsty captain of Squad 11, Zaraki Kenpachi, as an illustration of this.

During the battle, Kenpachi exhausts all his abilities against Gremmy and even resorts to using his Bankai, causing significant strain on his body. In contrast, Gremmy remains stationary throughout most of the fight. Remarkably, he summons a meteor merely by visualizing it. Fortunately for Gremmy, his lethargic character wouldn’t have allowed him to excel in sword fighting with a traditional approach; instead, this unusual power suits him perfectly.

4. Coyote Starrk

The Number 1 Espada Would Rather Relax And Watch The World Go By Rather Than Fight

  • First Appearance: Episode 138

It’s surprising that among all of Aizen’s Espada, it’s Starrk who climbs to the highest position in terms of power, considering he’s known for being the most laid-back and lethargic among them. In the Fake Karakura Town arc, when Starrk faces off against Kyoraku, he appears unconcerned about the captain standing before him and frequently tells Kyoraku that he’d prefer not to fight if possible.

In essence, Starrk carries such an overwhelming burden of Spiritual Power that any Hollows approaching him would be eliminated, leaving him secluded during his youth. This isolation has led him to develop a habit of idleness and observation, even though he is one of Aizen’s most powerful lieutenants, often finding himself leisurely observing the world around him.

5. Marechiyo Omaeda

Omaeda’s Lazy Personality Often Clashes With His Serious And Stoic Captain

  • First Appearance: Episode 30

Initially in the series, Omaeda is often depicted as a burden for his captain Soi Fon because of his laziness and excessive love for potato chips. In contrast, Soi Fon is consistently serious and dedicated to her mission, while Omaeda comes across as more casual and less engaged with the unfolding events.

It’s not that he won’t respond promptly when necessary, but as Soi Fon can attest, getting him to fulfill his responsibilities isn’t a simple feat. Fortunately, Kubo presents Omaeda in a more favorable light during the Thousand Year Blood War, although it’s challenging to remain casual when an army of Quincies threatens your safety.

6. Giselle Gewelle

Who Needs To Put In Effort When A Zombie Army Can Do Everything For You?

  • First Appearance: TYBW Episode 15

As a devoted admirer, I’d like to highlight Giselle’s unique talent, dubbed The Zombie, which empowers her to reanimate both allies and adversaries, forming her very own horde of undead soldiers. This extraordinary power enables Giselle to avoid direct confrontations, opting instead to hurl lifeless bodies at the opposition. Should she sustain injuries in battle, she has a grisly habit of feasting on the fallen foes’ flesh, as demonstrated with her late companion Bambietta.

As I’ve discovered during our battles, Giselle seems invulnerable to being sliced up – she doesn’t flinch even when her body is torn apart. This makes it easy for her to take a backseat and let her undead minions do the heavy lifting in fights. Her laid-back demeanor has earned her a special place among the Sternritter, making her both endearing and downright chilling at the same time.

7. Rangiku Matsumoto

Every Day In The Soul Society Is A Lazy Day For Rangiku

  • First Appearance: Episode 30

In the narrative of Bleach, various Soul Reapers are often depicted engaging in different activities during their free time. For instance, Renji and Hitsugaya usually spend their downtime honing their Zanpakuto skills, whereas Byakuya often deals with paperwork. However, Rangiku is almost always seen drinking at the bar, even when she has important tasks to complete, and manages to persuade others to join her.

Occasionally, she playfully mocks Captain Hitsugaya for being overly diligent, which usually leads to them arguing. Rangiku is another Soul Reaper who isn’t shy about proving her worth when necessary, even though she’d generally prefer relaxing in a hot tub or savoring some sake.

8. Askin Nakk Le Var

It Takes A Lot For Askin To Actually Start Trying When Engaged In A Battle

  • First Appearance: TYBW Episode 17

Despite being a top-tier member of the Schutzstaffel, Askin doesn’t always give his all in battles. In fact, more often than not, he prefers to avoid confrontations that seem even slightly energy-consuming, as evidenced by his hasty retreat from Grimmjow, followed by seeking out a peaceful spot to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee.

During the Thousand Year Blood War, Yoruichi remarks that Askin was deliberately restraining his power and merely playing with his opponents. Given his picnic baskets and coffee machines, it seems Askin prefers to relax and savor some enjoyable treats, which he does for a significant portion of the initial part of the final storyline.
