As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been playing League of Legends since it first launched over 15 years ago. It’s hard to believe that this game has dominated the MOBA scene and become the world’s premier competitive game. Now, after all these years, Riot Games is shaking things up by introducing a new WASD control scheme – a departure from the point-and-click model we’ve grown accustomed to. I can’t help but feel a bit nostalgic about this change, but I’m also excited to see how it will breathe fresh life into the game.
In their latest update, Riot Games announced upcoming changes for the game, including a plan to test the new control scheme using WASD keys as the primary controls initially.
All These Years Later
In a recently released 13-minute video, Riot Games announced an exciting test that could give League of Legends players the ability to move their Champions using WASD keys for the first time, marking significant updates to the game.
The team said:
It appears that numerous novice and returning gamers are finding it challenging to adapt to League’s controls initially. The “click-to-move” control system seems unfamiliar to them, which discourages many potential fans, including those who might have genuinely enjoyed the game otherwise.
To facilitate a quicker and smoother entry for novice players into the enjoyable aspects of League, we’re going to offer WASD as an alternative control setup option.
The development of WASD controls for League of Legends has been ongoing for some time now, with the aim of making the game more accessible and intuitive for newcomers who are diving into one of the market’s more intricate titles.
In an effort to ensure seamless gameplay for all players, Riot Games strives to make both the ‘point-and-click’ and WASD control systems compatible with every game mode, even in ranked matches.
In simpler terms, WASD control scheme is going to be added to the Public Beta Environment (PBE) for a while. After gathering player feedback, it’s expected to adapt and eventually appear in various game modes throughout the complete game version.
Would you rather opt for using WASD keys in League of Legends? I’d love to hear your opinions about it on the TopMob forum. Feel free to share!
