It’s said that Riot Games plans to set up an official Game Changers league for League of Legends this year. This league aims to provide a feasible route for female players and those from underrepresented genders to reach the highest levels of competitive League of Legends play.
Following the achievement from their venture in the VALORANT realm, Riot is optimistic about replicating such outcomes in their main game, League of Legends.
Game Changers LoL Seeks Similar Success as VALORANT
Based on reports from Dot Esports and Sheep Esports, it’s expected that Riot will introduce a League of Legends Game Changers program in the EMEA region this year. The upcoming 2025 season is said to have two segments, with Riot contemplating a LAN finals at the culmination of the second segment as well.
It appears that Riot Games may be considering inviting teams from the LEC, Europe’s top League of Legends league, to participate in a new initiative called “Game Changers.” Teams such as SK Gaming, G2 Esports, and Team Vitality, which currently field women’s LoL teams, are among those being considered. Additionally, it has been reported that at least three LEC teams without previous involvement in the [GC] scene have explored roster options depending on the launch of this initiative. Furthermore, SK Gaming is being looked at as a potential host for online qualifiers set to begin in March.
In the world of VALORANT, the Game Changers initiative has been an undeniable success. Over the past month alone, two-time GC champions Shopify Rebellion managed to secure a spot in an official Challengers league – a significant milestone as they are now the first GC team to do so. This achievement comes hot on the heels of their former star duelist player, Ava “florescent” Eugene, making history by competing in international VCT leagues, becoming the first Game Changers player to do so. The scene has offered numerous players a full-time competitive platform and has garnered impressive viewership numbers.
