September has been a barren month for Nintendo Directs since 2015, but given the unusual circumstances of 2024 and the impending release of the Switch 2, it seems like a viable option for a showcase.

And get this – word on the street is that we might even see a fresh Indie World showcase from Nintendo just over the horizon. Can’t wait to see what they’ve got in store for us!

Since New Year’s Day, the prominent gaming corporation from Japan has conducted four significant product presentations. The most recent among these was the Nintendo Direct held on June 18, during which they unveiled “The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom”, “LEGO Horizon Adventures”, and several other games.

Nintendo Reportedly Planning Indie World Showcase for September 2024

Journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe (also known as Brazil) hints at a possible upcoming Nintendo Direct event, stating it might happen “sooner rather than later.” Additionally, he reaffirms his prediction of an Indie World showcase scheduled for September 2024. Notably, Lippe was the source who revealed the delay of the Switch 2 in February 2024.

Still, it’s essential to approach such rumors with a healthy dose of doubt, given that Lippe’s predictions about Nintendo events haven’t always been spot-on. For instance, he once mistakenly announced an upcoming Nintendo Direct for April 2024, which later turned out to be unfounded. He subsequently admitted that he shared the information too hastily without fully confirming it with additional sources.

It’s Been 9 Years Since September Passed Without a Nintendo Direct

It appears that Lippe didn’t specify an exact date for the next Nintendo Direct, but given that Nintendo has typically held one in September since 2015 (with a few exceptions), it seems likely that this might be the month. However, it’s worth noting that Nintendo Directs usually don’t coincide with Indie World broadcasts. Yet, 2024 is an unusual year as Nintendo hinted that it will be the final year for the Switch without a successor, and they have already suggested that the Switch 2 will be revealed by no later than March 2025.

Reflecting on when Nintendo unveiled the Switch in October 2016, they had a major Nintendo Direct focusing on 3DS games a month earlier. If recent rumors are true, the Switch 2 might debut in March 2025, similar to its predecessor. This could imply that Nintendo may follow the same approach next time, unveiling the final lineup of Switch exclusives at a September 2024 Nintendo Direct, followed by the console reveal a month later. Afterward, they would probably ramp up production for a March 2025 release. However, to prevent leaks from factory floors, Nintendo likely won’t initiate mass production until after announcing the Switch 2 to ensure their big unveil isn’t spoiled.
