I was really disappointed to hear about the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake being put on hold, but it sounds like that’s not all! Apparently, Ubisoft canceled a bunch of Assassin’s Creed projects and even some multiplayer games as part of their big shake-up earlier this year. A recent leak seems to have listed all the games that didn’t make the cut after their January restructuring, and it’s a pretty long list!
In late January 2026, Ubisoft announced significant changes after a period of unsuccessful game launches, rising costs, and a falling stock price. The company plans to restructure its operations by creating five teams focused on specific game genres, while also reducing its size through studio closures and layoffs. Ubisoft stated it canceled six projects as part of this restructuring, though at the time, only the remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time was publicly named.
Ubisoft Reportedly Canceled Several Multiplayer Games Last Month
A recent report from Insider Gaming details five projects Ubisoft cancelled in January 2026. One wasn’t a new game, but plans for more content for the 2018 mobile game Assassin’s Creed Rebellion. The other four were Project Aether, Project Pathfinder, Project Crest, and Assassin’s Creed Singularity. Several of these cancelled projects were multiplayer games in the early stages of development, which likely made the decision to halt them simpler for Ubisoft, as they hadn’t invested heavily in them yet.

Originally called Project U, Project Pathfinder first appeared in September 2022 as a co-op shooter designed for shorter, session-based gameplay. After several years of testing, Ubisoft reportedly restarted the project in March 2024. While some at Ubisoft worried players wouldn’t keep coming back for more, leaders believed there was still a demand for this type of game, so they decided to rework it instead of cancelling it altogether. The initial concept was developed by Ubisoft Annecy in France, but after the reboot, Project Pathfinder moved to a different development studio. What happened to the team that originally worked on it is currently unknown.

Project Crest is one of the more puzzling games cancelled in January 2026. Before the cancellation, there were reports in 2025 that it would be a World War 2-based shooter where players had to collect items and escape. Ubisoft previously experimented with this type of gameplay—combining player-versus-player and player-versus-environment action—in The Division’s Dark Zone, which involved extracting loot by helicopter. However, the popular image of this genre is largely defined by the game Escape from Tarkov. Despite trying, Ubisoft hasn’t yet released a truly successful game in this style.
